Pitch black when there is no moon
... other times, like when the moon is on one of its between phases, just realy damn close to pitch black, and when the moon is full, the visibility should be more generouse (in the olden days before electric lighting, the moon was known as "the snich" by theves, because it illuminated the night).
Other phases could be harvest moons (yello full moons) that let crops and trees grow at night...
AND BLOOD MOONS (red full moons) that beef up monsters and such.
