Erm... God's have thier own uses, though more particulary.

When I'm a Sorc, and I start with Scroll of Piety, I follow Brigid or another god that'd help my magic.

When I'm a barbarian (I can't call them Barbs, because that's an entire new class, you know those people who dance and play music and tell tales... Erm.. Robin Hood's compaingion!), I rather just pray to Balor, Aengus, or Gov, mainly depending I'm doing.

It's mostly based on character structure. If you want your character to simulate something, then your so better off with the diverse gods.
