If anything sucks, it's linux.
By saying Linux sucks, you show real stupidity.
This was recently posted on my friends forum.

10 Reasons why Linux is superior to Windows.

1. Linux is more stable.

- I've been able to get weeks, months, and even a year of uptime on a linux box. Under windows, i couldn't get a day of uptime. I had to continuously reboot the system. Also to mention: The only true way to crash linux is to cause a Kernel Panic. This happens under rare and extreme circumstances, whereas with windows, the BSOD(Blue screen of Death) is a daily thing.

2. The Linux Kernel is more extendable.

- You can add modules to the kernel without having to restart the system. Under windows if you add a VxD, you have to restart the system, and sometimes the VxD will cause it to hang when you restart.

3. Linux is free.

- You can purchase linux, or you can download it for free (with most distributions). Windows on the other hand you have to pay for, unless you intend on pirating windows, which can land you a $10,000 fine if you are caught.

4. Linux is Open Source.

- You can view the source to the kernel at http://kernel.org . If you had the windows source, to any version other than CE, you would probably have your computer taken by the FBI (if you live in the US).

- There are hundreds, even thousands, of people who work to fix bugs and enhance the Linux kernel. With windows, there are a small few hired by microsoft to handle bugs. Therefore, bugs get fixed faster and on a wider scale in linux.

5. Linux is more secure.

- Because it is open source, there are more people to find and patch security holes in linux. With windows, again, there is a small few that handle this. Also to note: Windows enables unrestricted anonymous filesharing by default.

6. Linux is highly configurable.

- If you don't like something about the way linux is configured, change it. If you don't like something about how windows is configured, hack the registry for a few hours or deal with it.

7. Linux favors stability over style.

- Linux isn't designed to be flashy, it's designed to be efficient and stable. There are people working to make linux user-friendly. Mandrake Linux (http://linux-mandrake.com) is the most user-friendly distribution i've ever used. Windows is designed to be flashy. XP is severely dumbed down, and all the dumbing down they did wastes a lot of hard drive space and RAM.

8. Linux supports more systems than windows.

- Slackware's minimum requirements: (http://slackware.com/install/sysreq.php)
1. Intel 386 CPU
2. 16 MB Ram (32 MB Recommended if you run X)
3. 50 MB Hard Drive space (250 MB if you run X)
4. 3 1/4" Floppy

- Windows XP's Minimum Requirements: (http://microsoft.com/windowsxp/pro/e...on/sysreqs.asp)
1. Intel Pentium-class CPU @ 300 MHz
2. 64 MB Ram (128 MB Recommended for all features)
3. 1.5 GB Hard Disk Space
4. CD-ROM Drive

- Linux also supports more processors than just the intel family. It supports Intel, Alpha, ARM, PPC, and others.

9. Linux supports hardware better than Windows XP.

- My uncle used to run XP. He found it to be incompatible with even his Nike PSAplay (RIO-based MP3 Player) AND his Intel Personal Audio Player 3000.

- Windows XP refused to allow the drivers for his CD-Rom to load.

- Linux worked fine for him right out of the box.

10. The Linux community is self-supporting

- There are TONS of free sources of info on how to use linux, including IRC chats, Forums, and support groups.

- You have to pay to get any serious tech support on windows. (btw, when i called MSN to get the DNS numbers for thier dial-up service, they didn't know what DNS was)
