Obviously lines need to be drawn. We could say that glass is made of protons and neutrons (or quarks and gluons, even), but it wouldn't really tell us much. It seems reasonable to me that a glass figurine should be reported as being made of glass rather than stone, simply because the concepts we usually associate with the words 'glass' and 'stone' have drastically different properties. |
