Not always , depends on your partitions of your HD. I have my HD partitioned into 2 drives , C and D and my DVD is F , CDRW is G and my zip drive is E. I made the HD 60/40 so C is 60% abd D is 40% , this way I use D as a storage space for files I don't want lost if I format, since formatting to reinstall a OS is done on C and not D unless you set it to do that. My HD is 60gigs and it is better for speed wise to partition into smaller drives.
