It should only be 2 kingdoms like Googi said but they should not be Dustari and Zormite.
They should be 2 completly new kingdoms.
If it is older kingdoms I assume most people will just join Dustari so 2 new kingdoms will hopefully solve that.

Also as for the kingdom battles there should be buildings, small towns etc dotted about the overworld which the kingdoms can take over.
Once in the kingdoms possesion it becomes theirs untill it is taken over by the opposing kingdom.

If it is somelike like a store which sells bombs etc.
The owning kingdom of the store building may recieve 10 bombs for 10g whereas the kingdom which doesn't own it may have to pay 20g for 10 bombs.
The extra 10g the kingdom have to pay could go to the kingdom funds (kingdom which owns shop) for them to buy some sort of extra defense for their base.

And that's me finished rambling on for now.

I like that idea.
