woodsman skill identifies food items in your main inventory (not in bags/sacks/etc)

When you use it, you gain mental experience. However, it's a good idea to use the skill with small quantities of food, and not to collect a ton and use it, because if you learn nothing, you just wasted lots of food that you could have identified.

Also, once you've identified foods, they sell for a lot more.
