I think the romans used to make walls of shields, two rows of people, or three, one in the front to hold the sheilds vertical, on in the middle to shoot (from between the gaps in the shields) and the last row to hold the sheild at an angle, "total" protecton from a front of enemies.

That's called a phalanx. I plan to try and implment this strategy to Dustari later on, since shields actually WORK now; it was very effective.
