I remember back in the old days when everybody was poor. Ahh, good times. I was always poor, though, never having more than like 1500 gralat. I didn't really care about having shitloads of money. Most of the gralat I earned, I won in events. When my account was hacked last spring and I lost all of mine, I remembered just how fun it is to be poor. Sure I was pissed, but I got over it.
I say go for it. Just think of it, without worrying about losing money, everyone could have a major pk bash. It would be awesome. Hell, I might even have to re-upgrade. (If my account is ever fixed)
Anyway, I think you should:

Find the problems with the economy and fix/get rid of them. (i.e. hats & the market)
Take every precaution so as to make sure this does not happen again.
Solve current hacking probs.
Then comes the reset:
- Lose all Gralat + Job Items.
- Lose Houses -- Without gralat, nobody could pay the rent, anyway.
- Keep Bomys -- For sentimental reasons, I guess.
- Limit Gralat.
- Limit Hats, or change the whole hat system.
- Come up with more enjoyable, interesting jobs.
- Induce taxes, and use the proceeds for event prizes. This way, events don't inflate the economy.
- Occasionally give items as event prizes, rather than money. Maybe special items that cannot be obtained anywhere else.
That's all I can think of right now.
Either that, or just a complete reset... Why should you listen to me, though? I'm just some guy without a 2k1 account. I've got nothing to lose.
Another thing, this is to anyone who said that if there is a reset, they wasted so and so hours of their life: What were you doing the whole time? Were you working and scheming for money the entire time? Come now, you should be having fun RPing, PKing, and chatting. That time wouldn't be wasted if you were out having fun, and if you really find it that fun to earn money all the time, then just think of how much fun it will be trying to earn it back.
