A very large number of people claim to have lost their mothers when faced with jokes about them. Now, I can't say whether this is true or false, but statistical consideration would suggest that a reasonable percentage of the people who make this claim are actually lying. Why would you lie? Same reason all these liars do: Because it'd give you an easy way out of the insult and let you put shame on him for using it.
