The black stuff is an effect of automapping. It makes the game more realistic. What I mean by that is: If the player doesn't pick up the map or it is not given to the player (setting map with NPCS), then the player will be able to create their own map based on what they've seen. By uncovering the "shroud" (black stuff), they map that area as they walk around in it. Because seriously: Is someone without a map gonna enter a place they've never explored and know where everything is? By having the player pick up the map, it's realistic. By setting upon the player entering the onlinestartlocal.graal and having it set, it's realistic because A: They have been given a map before or B: They know the layout of the world. |
