I propose a command bar -- a text input type area at the bottom of the screen, exactly like the speaking input box, except for one major difference. the text enter into that box does not appear over your head. It would still activate NPC's, but without breaking the rping moment....you could also keep the npc command that takes commands from the chat / text input box, for roleplaying commands such as "open sesame!" or "door!....open!"

How about "setplayerprop #c, ;" so no one knows that you typed a command?
