's the other way around. "True" hackers invented Linux, and generally just enjoy programming and doing cool things with their web servers. They're kinda like jedi knights. Then there's a group called (by "true" hackers) crackers, who break into people's computers and do nasty things. Since thy generally have a lot of talent, they're kinda like the dark side of the force. They also write cracks for programs by scrutinizing the assembly code of a programs and then writing clever programs that remove registration checking. Then there are script kiddies, who break into other's computers using a program like Sub7, not having any clue what they're doing, just to impress their friends. And finally, there are people who buy software then distribute it for free (illegally) over the internet. These people are below even script kiddies, because they need no talent whatsoever. Ironically, the media calls all the above groups
except "true" hackers, hackers.
