I agree that committing to a visual appearance means nothing without unique gameplay. Era changed the gameplay by having guns, gangs, a 2k1-style economy that held its own (at least it did until a few years ago), cars, etc.

But really I mean, the different tileset styles would be more appropriate the way they were originally imagined, as themes for different events on 2k1. The Era modern style was originally conceived for an event called SWAT. Basing an entire server on the theme was a good idea in that case, but probably not in all cases.
