COD you have to raise your rank to unlock all the weapons, and you have to learn all the different guns ranges/damages/maps/modes/etc.
League can take years to get level 30, unlock all the heroes, and buy all the runes; not to mention the learning curve for the metagame/all the heroes abilities/etc. (I've been playing for 4 seasons now and don't have everything unlocked).
WoW takes even longer to establish yourself and learn all the abilities/items/maps/etc. You have to become known to a point to get into a top guild and everything, not to mention the entire game is just one huge grind regardless of what you're doing.

On Era all you need to do is grind for a weapon (which has been made fairly easy/quick to do) and kill other people. There really isn't any learning curve, all the weapons are neatly listed with stats. You might have to figure out how many shots it takes to kill a door or something I suppose.
In all of those other games though they have matchmaking systems that are designed so that you're generally competing with people that are determined to be around the same level you are. There is still a skill differential in level 20 WOW battlegrounds, but they've even gone so far as to separate the twinks from the normally geared players to level out the playing field even more.

I don't think the HP system on Era is a huge deal. I have 106 HP and I feel like I can still be competitive, but I have decent guns and I have more skill than most new players. For somebody completely new to the game, I can see how all of those things combined stacked against them could be daunting though.
