Business ranks:
I'm not sure why this is such a big deal, or why it's causing anybody on the staff team such huge pain. If it's such an issue, have a scripter create a simple ranking system (GUI, even, like the Gang System) and a drop-list of ranks to choose from that ties in to the rights system so that having a rank set inherits those specific rights for that rank (With the exception of the "Owner" rank, which can only be set by a staff member with a specific "staff level" or whatever). Then, a check upon login to see if somebody has a rank that is not in the outlined list of ranks and switches them to a rank that is. Preferably the lowest rank until somebody with rights can fix it up for them.

A) Cuts down on having so many different elements that need editing when somebody's rank is changed
B) Problem solved: No need for you to constantly warn people about custom ranks.
C) It's not hard to implement.
