Seriously, there needs to be some safe levels that you can't get PVP'd for. I tried to do quests on a new character this morning and I just got trolled by this one kid who would keep running me down.
Sure, there's a 3 second window after death to get away, but that doesn't mean you'll be able to even go out of the mainhouse again to even pick up the quests. If someone really wants to, you will not be able to level. This is not only frustrating, but extremely unfair for new players. I suggest at LEAST a 5 level safe zone that you can't kill players or be hurt by them. This will enable the player to at least experience some of the world before they're griefed to hell. It doesn't matter how good the player is, if someone is level 10 and they're level 2 they won't be able to survive.
You say that there's helpful text for people to read to find the stuff, but when you're a new player and "Go North for the Blob Forst" is the only directions you get (which is incredibly vague by the way), you're going to need to look around a bit for it, and how's that going to help the player not be killed? I can guarentee you that players who get on the server early are going to camp the blob forest in and out and just kill new players because they can. If you give players a couple safe levels, it may be pampering, but it also gives the players the ability to learn the server, maybe explore a bit before they're destroyed over and over again by a kid who's got nothing better to do. |
