Any time you choose to believe something that you read or that somebody tells you, you're just accepting that particular interpretation as being the most believable at that point in time. It does not make that belief the absolute truth.

Until recently it was believed that the Triceratops and the Torosaurus were two separate species of Dinosaurs. It is now generally accepted that they are the same dinosaur in different stages of growth.

A lot of people aren't up to date on paleontology news and still incorrectly believe that the Triceratops is it's own species. Wikipedia has already been updated to reflect the new findings though. Smart eh?
