I'm against the notion that poison is a mage problem. It disrupts melee players also. Futhermore, mages can poison others... If i were mage i'd make it customary to use an ogma bow, or a govannon bow with poison arrows so that affliction wise, there's not much of a chance the opponent has an ace up their sleeve e.g. Red/Black death / Rabies. Even so, they could be avoided by going bile. Poison is mainly a problem to those who follow the majority of gods: Govannon; Brigid; Dian; Leuc; Balor; Aengus. As you have no natural/god given immunities to poison and so you suffer -10 stat losses - crazy.
Solution? It's been said many times.

Godly versus whom? Pump enough resists and you can tank a mage for years. You'll only gain more freedom to cast and not be effectively silenced by poison ticking.
