It would increase the load on the server significantly, I would think, especially during boat battles where everyone is constantly opening their maps (and there are like 30 ships on an island).
However, while we're on the topic of it, please fix the glitch where you "fall" off a ship you're driving, and you have to grab the front again to start driving again. It's very, very annoying during battles (and when just riding to main).
