I infer that your levels are part of a forest, and as such, would expect players to walk through them. Under that provision, the biggest problem I see with your levels is your use of mushrooms. In the real world, mushrooms would not stop a person from walking over them, but in Graal, on the pics1.png and similar tilesets, mushrooms are placed on tiles that block players. When such is the case, you should refrain from placing them (blocking mushrooms) in the middle of walkways and areas that might see a lot of player traffic.
While I think they would fit nicely with the tone of the level, you should try to keep them far off to the side (next to the trees) to avoid blocking problems.
I found your grass-grass layering around the center of your first level a bit too linear. I suggest using more diagonal pathing as you did near the top of the first level and in the other two levels.
In some of the levels, you also use the thick grass/weed tiles (the two tiles usually found at the top-left of the tile board. While you can cut them in half and use them to occupy a single tile, I think they look best and you should try to use them intact as a 2x1 tile (as you did in the bottom left of your first level).
I think your water detailing in the bottom part of the last level could use some work. Brief suggestions include not linearizing the grass-water edging, adding another layer of shallow water tiles before using deep water tiles, and not using 8 of the same tile in a vertical line (that shallow water tile that is based off a dirt tiles from pics1.png) - try using a variety of shallow water tiles and not dividing the two deep water sections with a straight line.
Lastly, while I think the light rays look nice, I do not think they are appropriate in these levels. To me, their use seems awkward because you can already see the tops of the trees, so there should be nothing filtering the sun except clouds, in which case your levels should not be as dark as they are. They (the light rays) would be better suited for a level where the tops of the trees are not visible. |
