I rank them according to what they say they are. I'm not going to sit and interview anyone to see if they are what they say they are. Being in one rank won't give you special privileges over the other. There is only one person that has more rights than a trainee, and that's me.
If someone wants to lie or what not, then ah well. I don't see what harm will come of it. The only thing ranks are for is to help me organize who does what, and let the others in the guild know who does what. Trainee is simply a title you can choose for yourself if you wish others to know you're not really adept and wish to learn. If people feel they're above that level, then who am I to say otherwise?
