The main problem with that dialog is probably that in Vista many things that were formerly ok for non-administrators now require administrator rights (e.g. installing programs in the program folder or on C: ), so if you are used to those things it can really get annoying. The "sudo" thing is required less often on Unixes.

There are a few things in Vista which are quite interesting because it makes Windows look less outdated, e.g. you can install gfx drivers without restarting the computer, although the automatic update still requires you to restart the computer, it is trying to wait with that until you shutdown your computer anyway though. The compatbility issues with software and hardware are a problem though, normally people don't expect an OS update to support less software and hardware.
