It's transparent. If the forum layout waas black, it'd have a black backround. This one however will have a green backround (grass) and some shading.

Well I dunno.
It is a quick, efficient way to shade things. I'm talking about doing a few pixles at a time, not just a blob of 100 pixles and dragging it across the image that'd look terrible
