After the logs are backed up (automatic after a month i think) they are compressed with gzip on the sever (at least on GK).
An easier way to do this would be to make a special chest npc that logs who puts what in or takes what out - this would take a lot more work than a simple log script, but it would pinpoint exactly who stole everything.

Alarico - The way you worded your post insinuated that you should be the go-between for tavern owners and staff as far as logs go. You aren't the only person that deserves a right to the two taverns' logs, so don't presume you are. If this isn't what you meant, be more careful in your wording from now on.
