New server Providence might be screwed
I thought servers arent allowed to use copyrighted music and stuff. Well stupid ass Providence jailed me for pking, i guess im not supposed to cause of the role playing thing. But anyways when i was walking around in the little jail cell i touched the wall and a Lufia 2: Rise of the Sinistrals song started playing, i know for fact its from Lufia 2 cause its like my favorite rpg, its the music you hear in some dungeons. I remember reading a review and one reason the PW failed was cause it had Zelda music or something, i think those new playerworlds were put up to fast.

Doomsday was put up way to fast and by mistake ;) (it sux almost as much as Delteria itself)
|
It was sent in about a month and a half ago. That's not so fast.

MIDIS ARE NOT COPYRIGHTED
|
Actually some midis are copyrighted for your info. And I doubt the Zelda midi was copyrighted to but i remember it was rejected partly for that. Anywas i've tried out the new servers and i dont like any of them. Doomsday i think was the one with the spaceship intro i think, if it was it really sucks, i kept getting frozen on there. Providence i think is *** cause they are using Lufia 2 music, i only heard like 2-3 different midis on that server, one i recognized for sure and parts of another sounded very familiar. Whatever that other one was i didnt like either, i guess its the one where you are required to go to the homepage or your not allowed to play, thats just an inconvenience right there.

well few things 1st ur not supposed to upload midi files to ftp 2nd if he just heard it and he didnt d/l a midi pack. that means it was a wave file. and uploading copyrighted wave files into the server is illegal but if he d/l'ed a midi pak then i dont think it is |

MIDIs are synthesized sounds, they aren't copyright unless it says so inside the midi file such as where you fill the author section and stuff.
If MIDIs are so illegal then why aren't game companies flipping out because of them and why isn't vgmusic.com taken down? |

Music cant be copyrighted and neither can drinks for that matter.
Well maybe im wrong, if you took a piece of music that someone else wrote it would be OK but if you just took the music they did themselves it wouldnt be. I believe thats how it works. |

IT DOESN'T MATTER WHAT ****ING FORMAT THE DAMNED FILE IS IN! WHAT MATTERS IS THAT THE MUSIC USED TO MAKE THE FILE IS COPYRIGHTED!!!! If I play a copyrighted song on a Piano and make money off of it, I can get sued. If i play the same song on a Guitar, I can get sued. If I record it to an MP3, I can get sued. It doesn't matter how the song is heard, it is still copyrighted.

Actually a Providence's Midis weren't compyrighted though because I played them on my Widows Media Player and my Media Player shows if it is copyrighted or not and the midis weren't so don't worry about it man.

All music files that sound similar to
music from another game are illegal. Using the same melody is illegal. The music instrustry e.g. is suing people /companies that put melodies for mobile phones on their website. Playerworlds have already been taken down because of using copyrighted stuff, so you should remove / replace it soon. |

Correct me if I'm wrong, but... Neither Super Nintendo nor the Sony PlayStation use MIDI Synthesizers for their music. Am I right? Most MIDI's circulating around the net that are game music(vgmusic.com) are fanmade, and are not perfect reproductions. Seeing as how the midi is not made by the company that produced the game, that does not make it a copyrighted file that can be sued over, due to the fact that it is not the same thing and is a fan's rendition of the song. Am I right or am I wrong? I personally think that my reasoning is sound... So, going by this, shouldn't sites like "vgmusic.com" which has over 10,000+ MIDI's from video games be shut down if it is illegal? If MIDI's like that, made by simple people using synthesizers and other computer programs, are illegal because they are reproductions of good works of music featured in video games, then it wouldn't take me too long to find you a dozen sites that should get shut down because they are at least one hundred times more illegal than Napster or any MP3 file sharing program or MP3's themselves. Am I right? Or wrong? |

(Clops)
There a 1000s of sites with illegal stuff that aren't taken down, that doesn't make them legal. No police at your door to jail you for burned PSX/DC CDs? Oh damn, it must be ok then. Anyway, in town some Chrono trigger song was playing. Stefen took all the "unoriginal" music out of classic, there's none in 2k1 nor any other server as far as I know. |

Most people make midi's by ear. That means they don't use the exact keys. Therefore, if they don't use the exact keys, they can't be sued.

That's what I was trying to point out late last night... |

The song and melody isn't exactly the same as a video game, nor are the instruments. Let's also point out that a midi sounds
better or worse depending on the way your sound card plays midis. |
Lufia 2's music rocked and providence has midis that are totally ripped from it, i dont know if they took them out by now or not but still. And all you people gotta remember that vgmusic offers those songs for free, while a graal server that takes a payed subscription to play is using music from another game. So i dont think vgmusic is doing anything wrong unless they start forcing you to pay for thos video game midis. But providence is a p2p and did in fact use music from a super nes game. At least a few of you agreed with me. (i.e. Stefan) :)

I see no copyright on those midi files anyways. |
I didnt say it was directly from the game, i know its a midi thats kinda obvious. I said ripped as in you took the song from that game, thats where you got the tune to it. And regardless if it has a copyright or not its still music from another game, you cant honestly tell me it wasnt meant to sound like a song from lufia 2, cause its almost exactly the same. And i was saying that all those songs vgmusic offers is ok to offer because they dont make money off people downloading it. They proabably get money from the adds and stuff if at all. Its not ok for a p2p to have songs that sound like Lufia 2's because people have to pay money to play it and that servers's midis may be an 'effect' but thats all graphix and audios are, just something that enhances the experience and improves it in some way, hence it is part of the server if its used in it. So since your using that midi on the server its being used for commercial use and even video tapes are copyrighted and allowed for personall use, but thats it. And since that midi is not original and you dont have permission from Natsume (made Lufia 2) to use it then your not supposed to be able to use that for commercial use. Plus if you didnt read Stefan said earlier its not allowed and you need to get rid of it soon. And to think i never woulda heard it if i didnt get jailed for throwing bushes at saints, lol.

I'd suggest looking at the responses, because they prove some very valid points. |
