As for criticism, you could make the way the background shades less linear.

Also, the rest of his head is sorta rounded and plump, while his ears are sorta flat and dont have the dark outline of the rest of his head.

I made something like this today, but it's not appropriate for the forums. XD

@aeko, i fixed the ears up a bit.
might dither the background later, i think that will make it less linear.
