New Idea?
~Intro~
Killa Be here, from seeing all of thies modern servers I have desided to give it a shot to. But dont leave yet, insted of the era styled "buy gun , shoot people" method. Also trying to stay away from the feel of the current modern servers that just seams dark and gloomy. ~my idea~ I would like to have a rpg styled modern I guess you could say. Ware thare are no gun shops, not a one. You collect gun parts from active quest to build guns and even combine parts to make new ones! All guns will have default stats that change to the players stats. For examples "STR" incresses your guns power, "DEX" makes the shoot more accurate and faster with less spred. There would be weekend and weekly events for rare gun parts to make new guns and even upgrade your old ones. Yes that means your guns have duribility and can break. I plain for equiptment to give your stats a little boost to help you become even more powerfull. You start off with a slingshot and 100gold to buy a axe to cut wood. ~credits~ - The sidewalks are edited off dustys from the free tiles forum. - The light grass is edited from a old server angelu did. - The tree in the screenshot was made by me and puggy. - The trees from dev pradoxical was the insperation for the structure of it.(i belive elk did it? correct me if i am wrong) - The tree top was edited greatly from Haro41's trees for "SMK" on "UN" Any ideas to make this project better, or CC would be gladly accepted. =] http://img13.imageshack.us/img13/3408/example001.png |
It would be probably one of the more original approaches to a modern server, but you have to wonder if you're that motivated to make a server with plenty of quests why not just make a "classic" server with many quests - I think there would be more demand for a server with lots of quests as they are fun.
At the end of the day, while its a nice idea, the overall gameplay after I've completed all your quests will be the same as Era, so I could just go there and play! |
Codein and I had a pretty cool idea about a modern server battle theme which, when all the quests were up, would make sure the server isn't like Era.
Basically, think Turn Based battles, with moves, gun range, power ups, battlefield obstacles, etc. I think it'd work quite well with your main idea. |
Str, Dex, and so on are all overused names.
Also, stuff like tree-chopping is boring and out-of-place on a modern server. It's kind of like the way Atrius has a mining system, even though it's supposed to be a war-based server. |

Personally I believe we need a Graal: Modern Warfare. Instantly from that name you should assume features from CoD 4, such as matchmaking, achievements, ranks, and such.
I think Sands of Glory did something like that.. but that was a long time ago. Zone does something like this but I don't really dig the future aspect it has. Also.. Player stats influencing your guns power? Should just do gun upgrades instead tbh. In theory a level 10 with a glock shouldn't do more damage than a level 1 with a glock. |
I would love to have a matchmaking team-vs-team battle setup. I could use top view npcs for players to hide under maybe, but captureing the element of stealth is hard to do in a 2D game. I also dont know anyone other than oo_jazz_oo to help script it.

I like the first screenshot you provided, though the gun seems way too large. PROTIP: Don't become a Zodiac, keep your guns at least somewhat proportionate to the player

Yea I agree it seams to big to. I am gonna see if it looks good with new bodies , if it does im gonna use its scale for all the guns. If not , ill just remake it :P

You can only have so much effects with those stats before you run into gun balancing issues, which overall will ruin the shoot em up part of the game.
I.e: If done wrong, Max Player Accuracy would make every weapon you pick up a sniper rifle in the sense of accuracy. Then again for gun-server's I think you should be able to pick up a gun, shoot each other, die, respawn, and repeat like most successful shooters (CSS, TF2, etc.) have you do. But this is going to be a Modern-RPG server so my ideals don't apply here. |

The way I was looking at it was if i use the "dex" style dex would incress speed/accuracy/reload time. The difference in not having the dex would be noticeable but not to the point ware it would make every gun a "sniper". And when you mix gun parts example(shotgun and uzi) a auto-shotgun would shoot fast, but the clips are still small making you reload alot. Sure the accuracy with dex would be improved but the spred would still be bad.
