CTF. Nough Said.

Well well well. Now that Classic is off the server list, it seems that nearly all activity on the server has stopped. Whether you agree with the decision or not, it's already happened.

Regardless, there is one (and only one) aspect of Classic that I think most of us miss: CTF.

This isn't a guarantee, nor have all the details been finalized. But basically, would anyone be interested in a monthly (or weekly or bi-weekly, haven't decided yet) CTF Madness?

Basically one (or more) saturday each month, starting around 5 pm US East (subject to change,) several CTFs will be hosted in a row for the enjoyment of everyone online.

Right now the GC team is fairly limited in numbers as several people have disappeared, and our admin has retired. We'll find a way to deal with that if this plan comes to fruition. As for tickets, I suppose we can still give them out for these ctfs.

Do recall that this is not guaranteed and that all details need to be worked out still, but would anyone be interested in a CTF Madness night(s) each month?

Elizabeth 07-25-2009 05:37 PM

ya i love ctf

BlackSolider 07-25-2009 05:38 PM

Erm...

It seems there is going to be a "server wipe" within a few days so perhaps this idea will be tougher to implement in the near future. I guess it depends when they can get the event scripts back up. Regardless, the question still stands.

ff7chocoboknight 07-25-2009 06:08 PM

Yeah. I'd love to do this too, but development needs to start soon.

papajchris 07-25-2009 06:46 PM

I'd do join in if i didn't have to have gold

Rufus 07-25-2009 07:35 PM

I'd come on and play for sure, last night was fun.

Crimson2005 07-25-2009 09:02 PM

I'd play but development staff shouldn't be allowed to play the games. No time for them to be messing about in events when the server is on its arse :)

Rufus pretty much summed it up.

Ares 07-25-2009 09:22 PM

how about a ctf league

Crono 07-25-2009 09:33 PM

I'm down.

Considering that a league essentially requires the same X people each and every time, it is especially difficult to ensure that all X people will be on each and every time. Not only that, it is difficult to keep them motivated throughout, especially if the team is doing badly.

So rather than trying to rely on the same X people to show up and give it their all each and every time, I personally feel that just having a large 'open door' ctf event would be easier and more likely to survive in the long term (aka not fizzle out after 2 weeks like a league is prone to do.)

That's just an excuse for your failed leagues rofl.

But I won't try to argue about it.

Actually it is not just an excuse. A league is far less casual than what he is proposing, and as the server isn't even on one of the main playerworld categories it would be fruitless to even attempt something that requires dedication. People have struggled to get a league going when the server was public and actually had active players, how do you propose it's going to be any different now? It's probably going to be worse in fact, therefore casual 'open' playing is the most suitable, being less reliant on a certain set of players and more on anyone turning up to play. Additionally, why would anyone try to set up a league for something that isn't being done on a regular basis? The server is down, nobody plays on its hit detection, nobody has the ability to play CTF in order to practice or even know who is good anymore. Perhaps you should focus on how to make his proposal better (as there's a good reception for something like this and it takes a lot less, evidently) rather than just criticizing past attempts he's made at something entirely different.

I don't think there should be any expectation for a league besides failure on Graal, so I don't see why it's somehow funny to you.

The majority of players are kids who do not have complete control of what they'll be doing at any given time.

Nisube 07-26-2009 02:37 AM

Yayyy CTF! :p

Well I wasn't saying it could be started now, I know the playercount is null right about now. I was just criticizing that he had enough player interest in his latest one but just didnt start it due to pessimism. I know he has his specific reasons though. I can't really advise too much since I don't know what will happen with CTF in the future due to it only working on the current custom systems which is subject to change.

Just because you are saying you won't try to start an argument doesn't mean the arguments just going to stop.

People have obviously replied to what you have said.

the last quote in this post is contradictory to the body of what you wrote.

No it wasn't, but why do you care? You're banned.

Mark Sir Link 07-26-2009 07:14 AM

"I won't try to argue about it, but here I am arguing about it"

Add contradiction and all of its forms to the big list of words Mystic doesn't understand.

MysticX2X 07-26-2009 07:17 AM

Explaining != Arguing. Perhaps you need to add those to the list of words you don't understand instead.

Regardless, that was aimed mainly towards gladius

Deophite18 07-26-2009 09:36 AM

Okay lets make it happen. I nominate Mondays maybe mid afternoonish? Unless someone has a better time.

Only need 8-10 people to show for a game. Should be easy number to get, especially considering Classics community is a tight-knit core group of players who could easily get the others on if needed.

BlackSolider 07-26-2009 05:07 PM

Mystic + Kevin + Rufus + Luda + anyone else commenting on Mystic's ignorant remarks...just shut up and stay on topic. What's in the past is in the past and there's nothing we can do about it. Let's try to take this idea and make it work. Ideas people, ideas; not criticism of past events.

Of course critism of past events have to be used so this event does not fail oO

Rufus 07-26-2009 06:12 PM

The problem with Saturday is that at 6pm EST there's the weekly Tag Spar tournament on Unholy Nation, with the monthly one being held at 5pm EST once a month. A lot of people who would be potentially attending this event would usually attend the spar tournaments, so it'll clash.

There's no need to solely criticize previous attempts at something very different while not contributing to this idea in a positive matter.

Now this is the positive input I'm looking for. This would definately hinder the idea, so thanks for the tip rufus.

Well, it looks like Sat at 5 east. is out. Anyone have some ideas for when (day/time) this thing could be hosted? Keep in mind that we're trying to make it open to as many as people as possible, which includes people from the UK and from Cali (like a 10 hour time difference, so it's tricky.)

ff7chocoboknight 07-26-2009 07:32 PM

How about.... everyone go on Classic. You don't need to be Gold. (If anyone didn't know)

Heroin 07-27-2009 05:01 AM

my advice: if you ain't the captain, let go of a sinking ship
its not classic but the whole thing going down, get over your nostalgia, move on to something new and prevent your mascara from dripping <3

CTF isn't even nostalgic, it's one of the more recent additions to the server and the original map is one of the least played on. It's just fun.

oooooh, you seem to be right. let me buy some confetti, i wanna make sure to throw it around next time classic hits the playercount of 10 people (without RCs)
also ctf is SO awesome on that hit detection, i always set up my alarm clock so im never gonna miss it ^^

Apparently you're the one that needs to let go of the nostalgia, because as far as I know this isn't an attempt to raise the playercount of a server that isn't even on the serverlist. The hit detection suits the gametypes more than default probably would, UN's CTF sucks for example, so what's the problem?

I'm not mad, I just understand why people would want to do something they enjoyed in the past while waiting for the server to 'get better' as opposed to just letting it fade away.
