Seaport/First Content
Hi guys, I'm aware this could have just been posted in my most recent "Unholy Updates" topic. However, I wanted to get as much attention as I possibly could for this.. Fri. thru Sunday (May 8th-10th), we plan to finally release a significant pack of content in Seaport. Now, here's the heads up before everyone else gets it on the log in screen: This upcoming weekend we plan on releasing the brand new fishing system (Assuming everything goes well throughout the week). We also plan on opening the Seaport Aquarium. Before this release, the aquarium was just a big tiled trio of levels with sand and what looked like dead fish. We're doing our best with the resources we've got to make it a sweet set up that's enjoyable-- and that will be the host of some awesome things. -Some of the things it'll include are a mini-quest/mini-game for a neat little prize that you may or may not enjoy. However, why would we plan on releasing these two together? It's not JUST because we like fish, and it's certainly not because you'll be fishing in the Aquarium. (Unlike our other "jobs", fishing will be freeform and you can fish anywhere on the GMAP-- and different areas will give you different results? What? Who said that?) No. Actually, the ideas to kick off our new fishing system and the first significant release from Seaport is a donating system. Upon release the aquarium tanks will be empty. YOU, the player, will have to catch the fish and donate them. However (let me explain this as best I can), only one player can donate specific type of fish. Basically, lets say I catch a bass. I run down to the aquarium and donate it. A little bit later, you catch one and head down there unknowing that I had already paid them a visit. Well, if you try to donate your fish-- you'll be denied. They already have one! Streety is the victor, and his name will go down forever on one of the tank signs. "Bass: (Donated by SwimChao)" Now, for your awesome donating you'll also receive a life time pass to go in and out of the aquarium to see your fishies whenever you please. I don't want to give out ALL the information, especially about the mini-game and prize it'll include. So, you'll just have to come down yourself and see: May 9th at 6:30 PM (EST) Any changes in schedule will be posted here. ~Streety Edit: On a side note, donating isn't the only thing fishing is used for. Infact, it's not what it's intended for in the first place. You'll of course be able to sell your fish for $$$ |
From the picture the aquarium already looks awesome. When I was staff on UN I remmeber the aquarium they already had on the server, and by looking at that picture it looks nothing alike :P. The old one was like you said just a pile of sand. It's good that some major updates are happening to UN and SeaPort is actually turning out good unlike before. Let's see how the fishing turns out, but I would like to see something fun and not just pressing 'a'.
The fish donating thing sounds like Animal Crossing if you ever played that :p. However, I most likely will try to get atleast one little fishy, and name it after myself :). It does look like a job well done though, so great job. |
The fishing system plans to function with a cast into your water, then once you have a fish on the line, a bar will come up with a slider sliding from one end to the other. The bar will have a red portion in the center of it-- the objective to catch your fish is to get that slider in the red zone.
Now, for more difficult fish the red zone is assumed to be smaller. For more common fish, it is assumed to be larger. How much profit you'll make in comparison to the other jobs (that will be slightly toned down), is skeptical. However, it certainly will be fun, and bot free. Plus we can release limited edition fish certain times of year, etc. |
Very nice content idea!
|
I like the idea, but....
How will this spectacular new job help Unholy Nation? Unholy Nation doesn't have a balanced economy. The playercount is so low that people are not trading/selling/buying items anymore. Even if someone sells something; they want EP not Gralats. I'm glad to see that you guys are finishing Seaport, although it should've been released years ago. What still bugs me is that I still don't get why Malinko released it when it clearly wasn't finished. I think that it destroyed the whole "wow factor" of the whole project. I remember when I worked on it, it had some really neat ideas that Vicious came up with. Hopefully you guys will follow his direction and make Seaport a really great place :] After all; Unholy Nation could use some updates. |
this is going to be so good ^^
the aquarium looks great; the GAT team did a great job on it! a lot of effort was put into it. it's going to be fun to have the fishing system back also. great job guys :) |
Nice work Streety and the developers. Sounds, and looks good.
|
Nice, my old Aquarium Tileset I made for WiKKiD
|
So, does this mean that all the fish will be donated within 5 minutes of the fishing system/aquarium being released?
There cant be that many types of fish to catch.... |

I hope I've answered all your questions. |
what about this streety
you can rent fish tanks for gralat and u can donate up to 5 fishs at times ? 1 tank per players |
Good luck, I will certainly give it a try.
|
Looks good.
|
I have a strong feeling this Fishing System will be similar to Zenkou (considering the different fishes in different areas is similar), but whatever. Good luck.

Update -The fishing system is complete. Date for May 9th, at 6:30 PM (EST) is still on. |
I don't like to post twice in a row regardless of the time span between the initial post and the created post.. However..
Content is planned for release tomorrow at 6:30 PM (EST), we hope to see you there! |
Worth a try ^^ I'll be on.
|
blah, i'll be at my friend's party. D: dangit.

Not what I was expecting. Lots of people laming others, pause disabled, people blocking the small paths to areas there, 'buy rod' not working(either 'buyrod' worked when it clearly doesn't say that, and everyone else was using 'buy rod' or staff caved in and just gave it to me), and annoying players taking every chance to annoy the hell out of others. Also, you should just block the entrance to the aquarium rather than warping players out(or at least warp them back outside). I was waiting and ended up with my screen turning blue and me flying in circles in the level until it warped me inside and I ended up back at OSL.
As for the fishing... the bar/chance thing is just a SMALL step up from the technology I was seeing from UN... what, 10 years ago maybe? I was expecting something revolutionary :( No offense, it just doesn't seem like it's reflecting Graal's current capabilities. Oh well, I'm sure the UN playerbase will enjoy it regardless :) |
Just to vindicate the scenario a little bit.
It's day one, hour three of the release of the fishing system itself. For us to work out the MAJOR kinks in it (like precision with the slider), we need to have these mass testings and players reporting the quirky glitches that rarely happen. We plan to better it as a whole. However, we weren't looking to revolutionize Graal. We were looking to work on a change with UN's individual jobbing system-- of which is clearly working. :-) |
I thought when you said "different areas will give you different results" it meant that there would be a different variety of fish in different areas. Would have been neat.

i love the new fishing system! super fun ^^
EDIT: poor grammar is poor. |

He'd have to script the sentence to correctly construct the grammar appropriate for the object you catch. |
Well, in general the system isn't very flashy.
I had set out some visual candies that I usually try to do-- my belief is that if a script sucks good graphics can make it.. less sucky. The bar is one of the things that bothers me. When I had set out my graphics for it, we planned on other things. However, for the "red bar" "hit" system we used a showpoly technique. I adjusted the background bar to that system.. which is why IT itself is so poor. I also planned on some other techniques to make the bobber and fish biting itself look better.. However, in general it was a humongous hassle and really was inefficient with the system. Hopefully down the line we can "visually" perk it up. As for the system itself, different areas wasn't done yet because we don't really have that large of a variety of fish. Once we do, I was thinking that's what we'd do. Shallow, Deep, and then.. DEEP. (Obviously distinguishable by colors). All in all though, this content is far better than a stagnant city with no use. IMO.. of course. |
No plans for weight to be implemented?
|
Indeed there are. Especially because we want to do fishing tournaments.
|
Will that replace the current method of 'first come first serve' thing the aquarium is doing right now with fish donations?
|
I didn't think of it like that. It very well could.
I was just going a long with a way to encourage people to get on and leave their mark on the server. It's a rewarding thing for the majority of players.. getting their name in a public place. |
Quote:
However, if you implement a system where whoever donates a LARGER fish gets their mark in the aquarium, this will give players an incentive to continue competitively. What you could also do is whenever someone donates a larger fish, markup the max weight possible for the fish just a little, so that it will be impossible for someone to hit a max. |
Yeah, I get it for sure. Could be a good way to handle it.
I like that. Could also just make a "previous donors" at the entrance of the aquarium. Even though the list could get outrageously long. Could just set it up as a GUI you can X out of. |
Good job on Seaport! I have a few ideas for future updates though >_<
|
Not so sure if it was much of an update. Old fishing system you saw the fish in the water and had to wait for it to come near your lure before it actually reeled in, which seemed more realistic.
But good update none the less. |
Good update, gets people out into the overworld.
|
Yeah, the idea was to sprawl the players out from their idle spots and onto the overworld, and or Seaport.
The system isn't as in depth as the other one because we wanted it to be able to keep up with the other job systems UN has. We went as in depth as we could to make it possible with "specifics" we visualized it with. |
This weekend we're going to try to release more content.
Atleast one new thing, even though I want to release it in pairs or trios. |
looking forward to it ^^

I was talking about Graal specifically.
