Server requirements?

What are the server requirements to make hosted/playerworld statuses?

Bell 04-09-2009 06:17 PM

Hosted Tab:
This tab is basically for playerworlds that:
-Have good content but not a lot of it. Enough gameplay for players and staff to get a good feel for the server.
Have a small but complete sampling of what your playerworld will be for players to see and try. Levels containing tile errors, temporary images or placeholders from other servers won't be acceptable.
-Wish to show what they have to get staff members
It should be completed enough so that potential staff members can recognize the type
of server it will be so that developers with an interest in this type will apply.
-Want to open a temporary world for players while they finish the main world
It is understood that you are still in development so things such as unannounced player resets will be likely. There will be periodic reviews of the server by the PWA to ensure you are continuing development. If not then you will be put back into UC status.
-You will need to follow the same rules and guidelines as if you were Classic tabbed regarding staffing and handling player issues. http://forums.graalonline.com/forums...ad.php?t=84379

-Have at least a basic foundation for a community and/or economy.
-Have a substantial amount of original ideas, content, and concepts that bring new and interesting things to GraalOnline.
These things do not be completed but should be represented in some way to show they will be coming. A simple sign or door saying "future home of (insert concept idea here)" is sufficient.

Classic Tab:
This tab is for playerworlds that:
-Have enough interesting content for players to play your playerworld for a long time.
-Have a substantial amount of original ideas, content, and concepts that bring new and interesting things to GraalOnline.
-Have the server GS2 compliant and as secure as possible.
-A full, knowlegable staff that can guide players as well as help them with issues they may have.
-A ‘finished’ state so everything you wish to open with is working correctly

How to apply: If you wish to apply for this tab owners must apply through http://support.graalonline.com Playerworlds - Classic/Hosted Tab Inspection with a subject line of (Playerworld name) (type of inspection) ie. Era Classic inspection. Please also give us a brief description of the following things to be sure we are aware of them

# What interesting things does your server bring to Graal that are unlike any other server?
# How does your server differentiate itself from all of the other classic & hosted servers?
# The hosted server list is for servers to attract developers, is your server at a stable enough point in the development process to attract new developers to your server?
# Are your staff capable of presenting a professional front in front of players?
# Are you the original owner of the server or has it owned by people in the past? If yes, who?

Please allow at least 1 to 14 days for inspection and responses from all parties that need to inspect.

I laughed a lot at the Classic Tab requirements.

Take down:

Atlantis
Delteria
Classic
N-Pulse
Unholy Nation (Not GS2, haha)

Thanks.

These requirements aren't up officially although we're now currently using them for new inspections. Obviously those weren't the requirements when those other servers went up. While we've asked them to retrofit to GS2, all that takes time and massive reconstruction. Some things have to be grandfathered in or there won't be a server left on the list.

Er, its been like 4 years roughly since GS2 has been introduced. All servers on the classic tab should have transfered everything from GS1-GS2 imo. Doesn't take 4 years to even make what they have on any of those servers with the amount of staff they have o.0

In theory, no, it shouldn't take that long but the reality is some may never be fully converted. They all have massive overworlds with gs1 scripts tied into many things. We've asked them to convert but this usually comes at the expense of creating new content. When this happens we all know that players don't see improvements so immediately begin to complain that the staff are doing nothing.

The new will eventually replace the old which will in time no longer work. Not a perfect scenario but we're pretty much asking Ancient Rome to retrofit an entire city to modern day standards.

Valikorlia, for the most part, converted over to GS2 in late 2007, I believe. However, 90% of the content on the server is GS1, because 90% of the content is made up of level NPCs created by players. Despite my endless tirade against GS1 when I was LAT Chief, nobody bothered to learn GS2 because all GS1 required was copying-and-pasting existing level NPCs in to a level.

So, it's much more work than you make it to be, especially if your server is old and established (Valikorlia is ~10 years old, if I recall correctly; been here since before playerworlds, when you had 8 people per 'server').

Most of the problem with GS1 is indeed in level scripts, especially lights.

If a decent online level editor was made, with predefined ways to add lights, chairs, etc. in GS2, I think much of this could easily be solved.

I agree with Bell, it's likely that GS1 will never be disabled since it will just break a ton of stuff. However, I would like that option for new servers so that they could avoid this problem with ignorant levelers.
