Lag on ubuntu

Hello,i'm using Ubuntu 8.10 and Windows XP(Dual Boot),when trying to play graal with ubuntu everything work fine except that my latency increased a lot,i disabled the ubuntu's firewall (sudo ufw disable) and disabled my modem's firewall but i still can't decrease my latency.

i hope someone will help me solve my problem :D

I'm currently running Ubuntu 8.10 and Windows Vista with almost no lag on Ubuntu.
