Built Up Areas

I figured Era would have a proper city..it would be nice to have a proper built up area, i do remember someone trying to make it..but it dissapeared a few days later..

i dont think we really need loads of places to go into..but it would be interesting to fight there..a place with skyscrapers, that block your view and make it difficult too see the bullets.

That's kind of a cool idea, but why would you want to get yourself lamed? lol

skiylaroso 03-13-2009 08:08 PM

Strategy my friend, if its built up, then theres plenty of routes too take, then you can bring someone up from the rear and kill the lamer

Stokell88 03-13-2009 08:35 PM

Yeah, but era doesn't really work like that.

90% of the time, you'll get walled or lagged.

Tall buildings and stuff would be nice if this wasn't a 2D game.

Simply trans the top of the building that's walkable under?

But then what about the buildings on the other side of the road behind it?
Even with the first building transparented, the other building is then obscured.

I just don't think it'd look good at all.

Aye, I have to agree. It won't look presentable.

Such are the limitations of working on a 2D game.

Tytan 03-16-2009 08:21 PM

Kids on era are forgetting THIS IS A 2D GAME, we cant make era supernatural, its a game, get over yourself, want to fight in the city go to new york and find some people to screw around with, or lay GTA4

Crono 03-16-2009 08:22 PM

@ the notion of built-up areas and not skyscrapers (which is a stupid idea to begin with, really it's a 2D game come on):

You can have larger blockable buildings without having to resort to ugly thin tall buildings that need to have half of the structure image'd for transparency. Bravo Evolved pulled it off in some small areas, pretty sure Era can too. Delteria did it in 2002 as well and they're not even modern.

I agree with you there. Large buildings can be made, just not made so vertically.

Tytan 03-17-2009 02:18 AM

Yea, Era isnt as complex. lol. Its possible to be made, but if theres alot it could lag a little bit, i guess you could put a little city on south ridge. or something since southridge has no point but worthless houses, or the top left of north ridge could work to. alot of space there

skiylaroso 03-17-2009 06:54 PM

It looked good when i saw it on there, i think someone was just messin about or something, but up in the top right corner there was some buildings, i dont mean skyscrapers, but bigger than the buildings we have now, and it going Transparent when you walk behind it

Aldaris 03-17-2009 08:35 PM

Era = Gang server

The landscapes on Era for an actual gang = "Do not tread here!"

Meaning, Era should introduce a "slums" area.

Frankie 03-18-2009 06:21 PM

Back when I was trying to design a new gmap I wanted to try and implement buildings that weren't always facing the same direction but it's hard because they will always block the streets. Even though you can add transparency, if you have an area with a lot of buildings you'll never really see open streets.

True but the problem is more Era's style of level design.

hhdoubleharrasholy 03-18-2009 10:48 PM

You don't really need to have sky scrapers or even buildings you can walk under. I've seen some levels that were actually trying to be urban turn out REALLY WELL. I hate all this space and grass everywhere, stuff needs to be more congested, and it would make PKing more fun.
