What is missing?

I made this level for a Classic LAT application. It is supposed to be a level that is a pathway into the golden land or midas realm or something of that sort.
There were no guidelines, and I play a lot of Zelda, so I just kind of made what I thought that should look like in a simple level.

I hadn't made any levels in a really long time, some odd years. Do you think it is missing something?

I think overall it is a pretty good level and I like it better the more I look at it.

Sorry about that. O_O

Didn't attach it.

Yup Blank is always great

Effects, which aren't really included by typical level designers.

The stone path tiles seem out of place, and the staircase would look nicer without the banisters.

Zeltino 02-28-2009 11:06 PM

Like Drae says above. The Stone Path doesn't look right - try another path-type tile(s). The staircase would look better without those side banisters. The entrance/exit to the cave doesn't have the right color tiles (There should be dark tiles that color that are meant for that entrance). I'm not sure what, but you should do something with the side of the mountain. Maybe a little platform of grass jutting out, that players can jump down to? Or some more foliage to cover the mountainside (Gfx). But does look nice :).

I didn't notice the cave was the wrong shade of black. Thanks for pointing that out.

And about the path, well I happen to rather like it... doesn't seem out of place or misused to me.. if you want to see some misused tiles, play A Link to the Past!

Anyway I think it needs some water maybe, but I'm not sure. I have it in my mind that a level has to be there for a specific purpose... I was trying to make this one appropriately display its purpose without being too flamboyant. I like the golden banisters because it is supposed to be a pathway to the "Golden Realm". You know?

Soala 03-01-2009 02:40 PM

just shift the golden banister to 1 more tile on the bottom and it should be fine
Or maybe you really want it pressed to those cliffs?

Oh and...You're missing some flowers ! I can't even see one flower in that level :(
Add some water for more contrast and this level will be awesome :D

WanDaMan 03-01-2009 05:35 PM

Oh I disagree, I really like the path! Nice job, well done!

Umat 03-01-2009 05:42 PM

Yeah, I really like this level. Keeps the classic feeling. :)

This is meant to be a side-scrolling fishing level such as in Link's Awakening.
The cloud tiles are Luda's so thanks to Luda for making them. I would say that some other tiles most definitely need to be created before this could be actually used... but I've seen worse use of tiles on UN.

What do you think? I think after looking at it that maybe I should lower the water below the level of the land.

maximus_asinus 03-30-2009 07:04 AM

The surface of the water need a border, anything really to give the surface a little more definition. As of right now it looks like you put two halves of a level together. Along the same lines, the grass needs to stand out a little more!

Bottom half of the level really needs to be redone, the haphazard cliffing style worked on G2K1 but doesn't fly anymore. Water tiles along the cliff would need to be more organized as well. Also water needs more detail, probably along the lines of seaweed, fish, air bubbles, other plantlife/wildlife.

Those aren't cliffs...

I know, it is supposed to be earth under the grass. It still isn't visually appealing.
