My Era levels :D (Just Started)

So ya here they are, I just started so tell me what i need to improve on. I don't want mean comments, just constructive criticism. Thanks.

Level 1: Here is a room, Entrance to a house.
Level 2: Here a random building.
Level 3: Danger Zone room.
Level 4: Here's the outside of a house.
Level 5: And finally a beach level :)

I like your style. I tried to get into Era LATing but my style was awful and I'm not too good with the inside tiles. It's harder than it looks.

lardy227 02-04-2009 10:29 PM

Nice levels DT :3

BlueMelon 02-04-2009 11:06 PM

Thanks =]

looks like any era level, ez.

looks good though.

Frankie 02-05-2009 03:04 AM

I really like the level that has the rockets. the only thing is that those graphics suck and seem like they're standing up rather than laying down, which makes it look odd. you also forgot to add a back wall in that level.

(And all the GFX i did not do.)

Frankie 02-06-2009 12:47 AM

yeah I know. those graphics have been around for a while

knightfire35 02-06-2009 01:46 AM

Good job, they look really good.

BlueMelon 02-06-2009 01:48 AM

any things to improve? :s

Nataxo 02-06-2009 02:02 AM

what about some NPCs with our names having a party at the pool?! =D

DuBsTeRmAn 02-06-2009 08:23 PM

1. It's nice, I like it.
2. Not bad, but way toomany doors eh?
3. Very nice! Love it ;o
4. Not bad, should use the same tiles on the roof? Oh and you should add some flowers or something!
5. It looks a little weird, but not bad..

The last one I wanted like a popular beach entrance feeling. And the #4 I wanted different tiles because like you would no put the same stuff around a pool and you know
anyways thanks :D

DuBsTeRmAn 02-06-2009 08:59 PM

Allright, I wish you luck :)

salesman 02-06-2009 09:55 PM

Lots of tile/depth errors, but those go away with practice...You're showing some creativity, so that's a big plus.

If you stick with it you'll turn into a pretty nice LAT.

CharlieM 02-06-2009 11:26 PM

Blue what did you do to get your tileset to work? I used to have it working on my old PC but I forgot what I did to it.

BlueMelon 02-07-2009 01:40 AM

K I know this Might be a stupid question.
Yes i know. Whats tile deph? XP! Is it like Shading?

lardy227 02-07-2009 02:11 AM

Its like how something looks in perspective like how something seems large closer than when it is far away

Crono 02-07-2009 12:37 PM

Ok I'll go through this in some detail. First off, in the level editor you can press alt + 2 to take a screenshot or alt + 1 to take a full level screenshot (recommended). You can then upload the screenshot to this forum so you won't have to go on imageshack and stick it up there.

It seems you still need to practice on symmetry. Levels like your first and second one look best when they are symmetrical, however the top left is a different size from the top right on both levels (the length of the rooms on the first one and the roof on the second one).

1: http://img264.imageshack.us/img264/9...evelvp3.th.png

The overall idea is ok. The floor is a little bit plain and the level seems to be lacking content, especially on the top left and top right corners.

I like the little staircase-guard thing you made (using the table tiles?) running between the two stairs.

2:http://img16.imageshack.us/img16/410...vel2hd3.th.bmp

All the doors make this look ugly. The idea is neat and I can kind of see what you were aiming at but you should try to re-do it so that you use less doors and possibly add some windows.

3:http://img13.imageshack.us/img13/550...vel3xl4.th.bmp

Nothing special here, but you forgot to add the wall on the top part. The missile graphics are awful. I try not to use ugly graphics in my levels unless I really have to.

4: http://img124.imageshack.us/img124/5...vel4ar4.th.png

I like this house. Not a fan of using dirt on the roof (c'mon now) but the shape is good and I like the overall style of it. I like the little roof bridge and how the two buildings are connected. Good job.

5:http://img15.imageshack.us/img15/6753/level5lh1.th.gif

I like some of the creative bits of this level (the stacked roof on the bottom, the pillars running along the beach at the top) however the rest of the level is very undetailed and plain. The grass touching the floor tiles looks more like a bunch of tile errors and the dirt stands out too much.

BlueMelon 02-07-2009 02:49 PM

That Was Very Helpful thank you!

Curt1zzle 02-09-2009 02:16 AM

I don't like the levels, but that's just because I disagree with your style. You're not doing anything specifically wrong, though.

xJenn 02-13-2009 08:50 AM

Lol. I'd speak up but I don't know if people want to hear my opinion.
Hmm.
I will say though to Crono that Symmetrical levels aren't always the best. xP

BlueMelon 02-14-2009 12:39 AM

Pm me some tips maybe? you probably dont like them because you can lat on era and you know everything about.
Its my first levels btw.

I hate when people say here's my such and such oh by the way I just started like its an excuse. So people criticize you suck it up and learn from what they say.

Personally I find it useful to know if the other person is new or not because I can then talk on a level that they'll understand, get what I mean?

Unkownsoldier 03-22-2009 09:28 PM

yes..

fragman85 03-22-2009 10:10 PM

There are no "levels" you can talk on @ LATting, are there? lol

Uh, yeah. People have different levels of skill when it comes to LATing, the less experienced they are, the more basic you have to be. You can't go up to a new LAT and say "split the cliff, one with 2 layers the other with one" and expect them to know what exactly you're on about.

BlueMelon 03-23-2009 08:04 PM

Crono is right.

fragman85 03-23-2009 08:05 PM

Obviously ^^
