Maps!
How about instead of having like 5 different maps to look at they all go into one npc to reduce clutter and to avoid using bags in the inventory. Bags don't feel like classic.
And serously why release maps? That aren't even a gameplay element? The current goal on classic should be to attract players, not be a development playground. |

I know people like to jump on the "hate the development team" bandwagon, but it's honestly rather counter-productive.
Your arguments are a little stupid, like "reduce clutter" - that's why they are in a bag. "avoid using bags/bags don't feel like classic" - Uh, who cares? It serves a purpose and accomplishes it well. The reason for separating them was so players can open specific maps of different areas. We could have packed that functionality into one NPC, but why not just use the functionality that is already there and players are already familiar with? We released the new maps because the old ones caused lag, were not always accurate with the tileset, and with these ones we can help guide the players. We provide little icons on the map that indicate warp jewel locations, the next place to go in the storyline, and also special items and side quests. A problem with Classic has often been that players don't know where to go next or are too lazy to talk to NPCs to find the clues. This method solves those problems, therefore keeping more players entertained and therefore on the server. If you honestly think we are just a "development playground" you really should have seen the stuff that was done here before Thor's administration and not released. It was entirely pointless. I think the points I listed above warranted a rebuild of the maps, and it didn't take long at all. I understand your concern that we might be wondering off the goal to bring Classic back, but we really aren't - I think you just need to look at the bigger picture. |
Didn't Tyhm have a system almost exactly like this?
Only problem I have with the maps is that the minimap is transparent (and I'm not entirely sure if this is Classic's system, or Graal's). I'm not entirely sure why it is transparent, it makes things harder to see, and if I really wanted to see what was in my bottom corner I would disable it. |
Actually after Rufus suggested going on a trial and looking at some of the earlier quest stuff I got introduced to my new maps.
Besides being in a bag in the inventory and on seperate npcs the whole thing is a noble concept-- one more complaint is the ?'s on the map blend in very well with my grass color on my map and are hard to see! |
Hey guys, instead of pressing M and seeing the whole explored overworld...you can now press D and see tiny pieces of random maps! EXCITING.
You know, you'd think that they'd add custom maps (i.e large ones) if they were going to be splitting this stuff into your inventory. |
You can also press M and see the whole overworld, including places you haven't been yet. It just takes a minute to load. Maybe a "Loading..." would help?
It's a neat idea; if the map's good, they can add an option someday where you can click a Warp Jewel and warp there. Or you can fly your airship on the map itself, with the tiny icons of players running around below. Etc. |
Yeah, the M button still works the exact same way it use to... the inventory is just so you can view other places.

I offered to rescript the default map for Classic when I worked there and MS told me it was a waste of time and wouldn't give me the rights to even throw something together.
