Editing of player speed.

It would be very nice to be able to edit the speed of the player, other then shifting between shieldpower 1 and 3.

That way we wouldn't be forced to use custom movement systems for such a simple thing that should be possible to be manipulated by script.

Codein 12-14-2008 01:08 AM

Aye, I completely agree. This would be extremely useful.

I wonder how many years it has been since I requested this.

I think it would be a great addition of course.

xXziroXx 12-14-2008 01:09 AM

It just feels stupid to make a custom movement system when it should be possible to alter speed by a variable. The system is obviously there since shieldpower 1 and 3 alters it.

Rufus 12-14-2008 01:10 AM

Yeah, I agree. The shield levels should be setting that speed level if that is what the server would like to use as well as this. I guess that would remove the point of having shield levels, unless they deflect projectiles still when you have a level 2 shield? It's been a while since I have played on a server with default stuff.

Good idea

Yes, because you were the only single person to ever suggest this before.

cbk1994 12-14-2008 07:12 AM

Agreed. It's amazing that this still hasn't been added, while the stuff is already there (speed is changed for shields, carried objects, etc).

DustyPorViva 12-14-2008 07:15 AM

Well we know you can vary between two speeds(level 3 shield or <level 2), but I wonder if he coded it as such... It may not be as simple as changing a variable... perhaps his wall detection doesn't take into account varying speeds beyond two set speeds... perhaps if they don't, it would be a good thing to recode it to do such a thing.

Either way, it's been mentioned many, many times before and always is considered a welcome addition.

That's true, but if it is designed like that, it should be remade anyway.

The wall detection isn't even capable of managing two speeds. Nowadays somewhat old but still annoying bug:
  • Get lvl3 shield
  • Go into the left part of any level so your player.x equals 15.5
  • Walk into the blocking tiles to the right of the player

I know, the explanation sucks, but how would you explain something like this? It's ****ing weird.

DustyPorViva 12-14-2008 05:50 PM

I believe it was recoded back in v3, but it was too good and people complained :P

Well, the bug I explained appeared in v4 first. 2.31 didn't have it.

cbk1994 12-15-2008 12:11 AM

A server option could be added if people complain; 'usenewmovement=true'

DustyPorViva 12-15-2008 12:20 AM

I remember when the v3(or v4?) introduced the new movement system. Most complained the wall-detection was too good, therefor messed up servers which relied on players oddly maneuvering through one-tile-wide gaps by using the sliding technique. It was ridiculous. We can't get improvements because servers are too lazy to go through and fix stupid things like that.

Admins 12-15-2008 03:11 AM

There is a player.defaultwalkspeed in the next Graal version although like some people said before you can't make the player faster than "1" (default is 0.5), for that you would need a custom walk system like on Era or Zone.
