Class distinction

I know GK "missed the boat" on this one a long time ago, but I was thinking it's still cool to have a class distinction some how.

First off would be of course, class-specific spells/skills? Eh too late for that?

What about Auras? Say for example, priests have a different glow/light effect under them or halo or something a long those lines, which would be different from a Sorcerer's.

Class symbols? Like the ones you have over your head based on your kingdom. There are some people in Bmode that are without a kingdom, and if they do that maybe instead of not showing an icon, show their class icon?

Class specific items/clothing? "Sorry, only priests can wield/wear such an item" RAWR HAR.

Dunno, just throwing out some ideas. The earth is round, the boat may come back around and this time GK can hop on it ;)

That would be bad, and I'll tell you why.
Asuming thieve's are the only ones able to wear Ring of Thieves. (Considering I'm the only Thief I've seen since Mirk was about 3or4 years ago)
A lot of the players will be getting screwed there. Simular with the Ring of War. Logicly only Warriors and Barbarians can wear them, and most the good players with Ring of Wars are Preists, Sorcerers and whatever. They'd be getting steped on.

I take it as a fair assumption that anyone who suggests a class-specific item system can easily realize that there'd have to be a great change of the items themselves. You could start with the existing items as you said, making RoT for theives only. Maybe Warriors and/or Barbs would be able to use RoF/RoC/RoW. I see no problem with that except for... oh wait, Sorcs,Priests, and Alchemists. That's why you start making NEW items. I'm assuming the problem is that the current rings that would be for sorcs, priests, and alchemists would leave those classes at failure. This goes beyond just rings and applies to other items as well.

And it should go beyond items as well. Currently, it's like we're all of the Warrior class (because that's the only one I would imagine being able to perform the skills of several classes in the way we all do), but with extra power. We're like Super Warriors.

But TBH, I don't really think this is what's wrong with GK. In other words, I think GK could be a super-awesome MMORPG while keeping its class system. So long as maxing out your skill levels is a seemingly impossible task, the class system will lie in choice. Those who choose to focus on wisdom will have advantages as a priest. Those who choose to focus on physique, will have advantages as a barbarian. That's how it is right now. I'm not so sure about the status of max level thing. I know plenty of people have maxed their skill levels from bugs in the past, or maybe other methods. Whatever the current status is, I would say things are much better when that max level is unattainable. IMO, GK's best days were when nobody had reached the max level. This goes for base level also. Though it's much less important, it plays a big role in motivation.

making class item would take ALOT of work! so are spells..

the staff would need to redo all stats for each item + addig tons new items so all classes are balanced

the balance updates would be very very ver... long

As long as GK is based on the Crossfire engine, changes like this are more or less impossible since it'll stray too far from the rest of the engine, thus becoming imbalanced. The only solution would be to completely remake half the servers systems, and frankly, that's too late.

WarLord2004 10-16-2008 04:23 PM

Late for what? there's hardly any players on GK anymore it's never to late...

If your assuming that GK has a population like world of warcraft yea it would of been to late but it's nothing to even worry about...

Even if some minor stuff get rollback or even a simple reset gk would be better off...

Atleast start from scratch might loose some and might gain who knows.

Yes, it is too late, considering almost all of GK would require a rescripting, which would be too much for anyone to handle.

WarLord2004 10-16-2008 04:30 PM

So players are not paying for newly updates .. The only updates they deserve is just a simple new GFX with some stats based on the fail system that is already in effect?

Every single word of your post is 100% wrong.

Indeed.

But wouldn't all players prefer to have fair-based battles ?
Actually I find this quite cool to be like a barbarian but to do alchemy and cast spells, but it becomes annoying to see that a simple noob lvl 10 can own you having a kickass spell if you are like lvl 60, etc...

There are alot of improvements to be done on GK, I assume that in pk area, speed got to be reduced first, because it becomes almost impossible to hit people who got Ring of Thieves(or a speed higher than 3.5 <_<)
And there should be level limits, so for exemple, lvl 10 with RoWs wouldn't be able to equip them ... UNFAIRNESS !

There's a huge difference between rescripting the entire engine, and releasing new updates. :oo:

BigBear3 10-17-2008 12:07 AM

Here's an idea.

Remove the class system.

I'm not very barbaric. I just wanted 20 20 20.

:(

cyan3 10-17-2008 01:16 AM

Here's a better idea.

Don't change the class system :\

CABAL49 10-17-2008 05:20 AM

There is no real class system. Enough plat and you have all the skills.

Ziro_of_the_Turks 10-19-2008 04:55 AM

Yeah, trash the class system.

Or make a real one.

BigBear3 10-19-2008 02:19 PM

I don't have skills like agriculture, mining, crafting, etc. The basic laboring skills.
If this is because my class is Barbarian, that is retarded. I want these skills. I do quite a bit of them. I went to farm carrots and got 1 carrot per plant. Everybody should have these skills. My physique level would get me about 30 carrots.
