Repetative Grass

I'm stuck on this grass tile. It seems to be very repetitive, and I've been trying to fix it. It's hard because of the amount of contrast that's in it.. Anyone care to help a bit on it?

Would really appreciate it if someone could get it to atleast look a little better when tiled :D

I just tiled your grass in paint. It looks fine.

MagikMasterMind 09-14-2008 07:55 PM

Try to darker it. Your contrast is too big to me. Makes it too flasheh!

You can't notice it when you tile it a couple times.... You have to tile it to a level or something to get the full effect. It is gridded pretty bad

Lowering the contrast a touch makes life easier.

Draenin 09-14-2008 08:58 PM

I don't think it's the contrast so much as saturation.

Arch_Angel 09-14-2008 09:02 PM

Well that's the problem. I'm trying to keep the same oclor/contrast but get rid of so much repetitiveness....

Draenin 09-14-2008 09:04 PM

If you're tiling these, they're meant to be repetitive. You're not going to be able to escape that. The best you can do is try to blend the edges, but as I said, the edges look fine.

Arch_Angel 09-14-2008 09:43 PM

Yea looks better with just a couple tiles.. But wait til you tile a big area.. It gets pretty bad haha

added 1 color, darkened, and messed with the rest becuase I was bored ~.~

But yeah, doesnt seem like it is repetitive.

Do you all not listen :(
Put it on a set, get it to load to your tiles folder, then put in offline editor, tile the level with it.. It IS repetitive.. Must I post the image on Int to show you guys T_T

That's because the level is one tile then, of course it's repetive then xD

you need other (grass) details, flowers, rocks, trees etc to.. kinda.. take away the focus from the "repetive grass"

Crow 09-14-2008 10:39 PM

I tried it. It's not that bad. If I would be you, I would probably leave it the way it is. If you want to fix it, tile a block of like 256*256 pixels in the program of your choice, zoom to a 1x scale, and somehow mark the things that stick out. Zoom in, locate them, then locate them in the tiles, and fix them. Rinse and repeat.

Nah, you shouldnt think of it that way.

Codein 09-14-2008 10:39 PM

I see what you mean. Just make the darker bit a bit lighter, by adding more highlights, I guess.

Arch_Angel 09-14-2008 10:48 PM

But we don't want it to get dull. I'll just do what Crow said, thanks.

That's why levels have detail.

That's why you first fix the repetitiveness.

Draenin 09-15-2008 03:15 AM

If you're going to be tiling the same image over and over, yes, it's going to be repetitive. Sorry chap, but that's how it works.

coreys 09-15-2008 03:49 AM

That, and, if it doesn't look very repetitive over a few tiles, it's fine, because that should be all the tiles that are next to each other in a properly detailed level.

But I've seen it get better than what these tile like. Which is why I came to the forums hoping someone could help me fix 'em up.. I know how tiling works, and everyone seems to just be trying to 'teach' me about the tiles. I just simply wanted someone who was decent at grass tiles to maybe help me out a bit..

Welp, thanks to all who gave me advice on what to do, and Aeko on editing it a bit.

Draenin 09-15-2008 04:24 AM

You can always just split up those tiles and try using them interchangeably.

Arch_Angel 09-15-2008 04:30 AM

Yea I was thinking the same earlier. That could possibly work
