What do you think...

...makes a good typical Graal Startscreen?

Opinions please, layout, concept, detail, I wanna hear it!

I think they suck. I'd rather jump straight in.

Interesting, but easy on the eyes. Something unique, but still conforms to a login screen. Maybe some subtle animation in the background too.

Sleek, sexy, nice curves.

...I'd say it is very hard to formulate an opinion on Graal startscreens because there has never been a good one before. But if you consider RPG start screens in general, think about some of the greats of the past and their start screen. Obviously Final Fantasy comes to mind and most games by Squeenix.

They usually feature a character or symbol of importance whether indicated or not in the main storyline.

They usually feature fitting music that compliments the starting screen.

The selection is different depending on the mood of the project. Sometimes it is a quick, simple choice between 2 options. Sometimes it's a more animated set of buttons and transitions, including fading between the separate screens.

Having seen the titlescreen for Crystia, I'd say you're on the right track. But be mindful of how you create any kind of interface and make sure that it fits the feel that we have all witnessed and will be expecting. :)

peace

Nothing tacky, like player animations and crap(the bomy, and torch) thrown in to fill space. No window... I hate the fact that the current login is lodged in some window... it looks so cheap. Um, and no default buttons and crap.

Simply -- anything other than the current one.

This is actually leaps and bounds better than the current screen - if not for the novelty than for the simplicity of it.

Reminds me of the old one where you had to connect with an IP address. :)

Music! I know that it will probably get annoying, but it could be optional and it would be nice to have something to make you think "Graal," in a form of music and not just graphics. You know, like Maplestory's start screen. ^^

So true.

Also, don't forget a beautiful background with special effects that don't really portray the game at all but still look good enough to hook people in. Couple with that my other post and you've got me sold.

Clean, Purposeful, Thematic.

Depends on what kind of start you're making a screen for. There has been two different types mentioned already, but it really depends on which you mean.
