the server is down, yes, but the server isn't resetting. I don't know what happened nor do I know when it's going to be fixed.

rumors are being spread left and right about there being a reset lol. I'm getting messages everywhere about it.

Well, since Era resets every few months, I wouldn't be surprised.

the last reset was january 2007 which is a bit more than a year and a half. I don't know where people get "every few months" from.

Even once a year or half is still too often for an online game. Could you imagine playing WoW and having your character deleted every year and a half?

Servers should try and shoot for... well, I dunno, NEVER HAVING TO RESET.

Doesn't mean it needs a reset.
You just have to change the scripts, and change the economy a bit. It's possible to do all that without a reset :\

when i type in era in the playerworld thingy, it goes to a place called "Tales"

Maybe's he took it down because it still hasen't progressed well? because Era, UN and Zodiac are on the same server pc.

oh yeah. I'm sure Stefan just decided to take the server down out of nowhere with no indication what so ever. Stefan doesn't log on Era enough to view it's progress so I doubt he would make such an assumption.

Besides, no matter how crappy people think Era is we still maintain a high player count and we are in the top 3 servers (the only 3 servers that hit > 50 player count) so I can assure you this is just an unexpected server crash.

Era's always been in top 3 for years so theres no change there, why would era go down when it's on the same server as the other 2, if the server that ran era, un and zodiac went down then they would all be down now.

When Stefan does an NPC server restart on Era, only Era restarts, not the other 2 servers on the machine. So your theory is false.

Don't get me wrong but era's been the same for the past 8months now with slight things added and the resets been planned for ages and still hasen't happened.

I don't really want to start arguments here, but anyway.

I was talking to Bell and she said we have to wait for Stefan because he's the only one that can restart the gserver on servers on the gold/classic tab. So yeah. Era is not resetting and it's not being deleted, case closed.

I doubt that servers will be taken off without any further notice, especially ones in the classic list. I suppose the gserver had a failure or something and just won't reboot.

I know for sure this is not the case, but if Era ever suddenly became a Gold server, I would not pay. I would probably demand a refund in trade for my account being deleted. I'm assuming that this playerworld disappearance, however, may be something a player or scripter (by accident).

One of my friends accidentally created a loop in his script which brought the server down (simple grenade shrapnel script).

That or a player took something that made a lot of lag, like an explosive, and planted around 23845634 of them somewhere secluded and shot them... Causing the server to crash from the lag.

there was nothing going on at the time of the crash. I was just sitting on RC and nobody was active and out of nowhere I was d/c'd. That leaves out scripts causing this.

Players can't crash and shut down the server like this.. I've seen far worse staff npcs that lagged the server but didn't completely crash it and have it shut down for the whole day.

Actually, I accidentally made a script that crashed the server a few times, with few players on.
Now that I know how I did it, I could make one that could crash the server on it's own.
It was caused by sending too many actions to the serverside. Make sure you never do that if you don't want your server down for a day x_x

Not really ... things like explosions normally don't cause a lot of server lag. The effects are clientside, so it will be the players who will lag, not the whole sever.

In theory with enough, I suppose it would be possible to crash the server, but it would take WAY more than is practical.

I don't see how a grenade shrapnel script could bring down the server; the loop limit should hit well before the server dies, unless you're using a really bad method to make the shrapnel.

It is very easy to crash a server with scripts... and even easier to crash the NPC server.

Era is down because last night's gserver update killed the server.
The previous gserver update broke a bunch of scripts, so it seems like Era is fairly unlucky when it comes to gserver updates.

It has been down for almost 16 hours now, I think, hopefully it'll be back up soon.

Trust me, it happened. And it was a bad method. NPCServer went out cold, along with players.

I was kind of anticipating an evil plot caused by some player to show Stefan how unwise he was on putting Zodiac and Era in the same server. Oh well.

it's been down for almost a full 24 hours now..

I e-mailed unixmad, and apparently he got on about an hour and a half after I sent the e-mail, but I dunno if he had read it or not.

NPC-Server ≠ Gserver

It's not being rolled back or reset, at least.

Didn't GK just have this problem?

GK went off of the serverlist for about 15 minutes once, but Stefan was on at the time.

I think Stefan just went on holiday for two weeks.
