Iricia problem: vote for next map?
 
For making the game more interesting most people agree that it would be fun to play more maps, but since most players are already on Iricia it doesn't make sense to play other maps anyway except there is some special event managed by an admin.

Also just closing Iricia is kind of stupid too, most other maps are not that much fun when played over and over again so some mix of them might be best.

May be there should be some way to vote for the next map (kind of like in Counterstrike) ? Players would automatically be warped there when one round is finished, except when they are on the sparring dropship.

Of course some stuff would have to be changed, probably Iricia rounds should be shorter, there should be more motiviation to take all bases instead of laming the spawn bases (you get exp and money for winning a Iricia round btw.).

If they revert Iricia back to the old Iricia there wouldn't be as many problems, although I probably shouldn't derail the purpose of this thread saying that.
I'd like to see a map with a bit of team work involved. That would be interesting but I don't think it would fly to well or work with the type of server Zone is.

my idea for a new map would be some sort of intresting map, like with obstacles and dangerous stuff, could be a deserted map with sandtraps..and sandstorms who knows? maybe even a new objective

That's why the rounds shouldn't take too much time, let's say 5 minutes.

On Vesporia, our system is set up like this:

- A battleground is randomly selected
- A type for that battleground is randomly selected (CTF, Deathmatch, War, etc)
- Players vote on that
- If they vote to skip, another is chosen which they must do.
- They get like 5 minutes in between maps.

Idea for a new map:

I think a military map, with tanks, military weapons, new verhicles and more military things! I think that would be populair ;)

Why would they stop spawn killing? Its like recieving free kills over and over. I see no reason to take a base unless your about to lose. Your going to have to make big changes if you want people to stop wanting thousands of free kills.

And putting a time limit on Iricia would piss A LOT of people off. You better do something BIG to compensate for angering that many people.

This doesn't happen as much as it used to because everyone that has SOME skill are on some kind of peace-treaty. This is why its so easy to get to other people's home bases.

You could try increase the amount of EXP/Gold gained from winning Arctic or something.

I just wanted to throw this in. There are only two ways I can think of to stop base laming, both of which will kill Iricia.
The first way to stop base laming is too get rid of bikes and disable jetpacks as well as fixing the storm rider base. That will make it harder to get to other bases to base lame and will prevent the weaker team (Storm Riders) from being killed. Sweep fleet has better organization and defenses which is why ultimately, unless many skilled players come to Storm's defense, sweep always wins.

The second way to fix base laming is to kill Irica. There are a few choice ways to do this. The first of which is just to add ridiculously over powered turrets that have an extremely long range. This would make fighting at bases impossible and would make Iricia no longer be fun. Then base laming couldn't even be an issue because Iricia would lack the players to be played.
Another way to kill and fix Iricia would be to just add more walls going across Iricia so you can't ride a bike even halfway across the map. Then when forced with the option of walking or just going to spar, most skilled players will go to spar.

The problems with Iricia really are fundamental. The map is poorly organized and while the newer version has built upon this awful organization, it was already a problem before hand. I think it was Crono who said this, but he was right. Iricia is the best place to fight because you can go straight to the enemies base and you don't have any trees in the way.

One way to try to fix Iricia would be to create several GMAP's and have them each switch out every round. After a week the players could choose which map they liked best and it could be used. Choices could be: Oldest version of Iricia, Raven's first version, Raven's second version, some alternative to the other three that could be thrown together by debug workers.

"If you can't fix it, make a new map"
I guess that is what I have to go with. Maybe a great new map with superior oragnization could be added to replace a map like CTF (CTF could be made an events planet)

I think the best alternative is to create a new map that will be extremely well balanced. We can always introduce a new map at the same time as some hopefully "map saving" changes for Iricia. Then it will be up to the players to choose if they like the new map or Iricia.
