Low poly models

Well felt like trying some more 3d stuffs in milkshape after doing anubis banner, haven't really done much 3d models before so thought it might be interesting xD
you can mostly only do low poly with milkshape also coz texturing is a pain :p

the head, minigun and steel barrel are zone stuffs, the sword is my own design.

Chompy 05-02-2008 05:14 PM

That's pretty cool :p

Reminds me of very old PSX games

Mr_Blue 05-02-2008 07:06 PM

Never used milkshape before. Did you use a 2d reference inside the program or do it all from scratch? Either way, not bad for low poly.

It's best to use references in milkshape as you make poly by poly after vertexes that you put out, I made a sketch for the sword, the zone stuffs where based off stuffs I found in the zone image folder.

Mr_Blue 05-02-2008 07:14 PM

Well, I didn't know if you could import 2d images to draw against like in 3DS Max.

Galdor 05-02-2008 07:29 PM

well I add some background images that Im going to use as reference, could been made better its not too alike but just wanted to put together a few models for fun xD

Not very good, but it's nice to see more of your stuff. If you have a place you keep your art (like deviant art) I'd love for a link.

cbk1994 05-02-2008 10:38 PM

Nice for a low-poly quick build!

Special powers :p

Made another zodiac weapon, an axe this time had a bit of a texturing problem but w/e.

Robin 05-03-2008 03:59 AM

Those are good man but yeah might want to get some better textures :P

DustyPorViva 05-03-2008 05:23 AM

To be honest, the sword in the first attachment isn't really low poly :P
I can't do the count but it looks like it has more polygons than even the head.

Also, Robin is right... low poly means nothing unless you have good textures to go along with it. I wish I could post but pixelation has a few posts with low poly stuff that even makes a simple cube look nice because of the quality of the textures. You should use stuff catered for your models, it'll probably look a ton better.

I think it's safe to assume the work which Galdor has done here was for entertainment purposes, and the novelty of turning 2D sprites into 3D objects.

DustyPorViva 05-03-2008 06:31 AM

Ya, but he can also enjoy himself doing the textures himself :)

Elk 05-03-2008 07:12 AM

galdor i love how youve analyzed my sword like that...its exactly like that :3

xAzerothx 05-03-2008 07:44 AM

I'm gonna have to try this out. Your stuff looks nice.

Do you just sit at your computer all day making 3D objects?

YOU'RE A MANIAC!!!!

Very nice :)

Thats wrong. It's super low poly. Games today uses many times as much polygons as any of Galdors models.
But no offence to you Galdor, I think they are really good, and I actually like the pixelated textures, they fit the models.

DustyPorViva 05-04-2008 08:39 AM

Just because it uses less polygons than a PS3 model doesn't make it low poly ;)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Low_poly

I think just about everyone that dabbles in 3D modeling can agree, that low poly is not necessarily defined by the amount of polygons actually used (In most cases), but by the level of detail an object has.

DustyPorViva 05-04-2008 09:01 AM

And that sword has a lot of detail in just the polygons itself. I'd consider a low poly sword one in similar model design to the ones in Zelda:OoT.
That link you posted(ha, you're gonna get in trouble) itself says that low poly models mostly appear blocky(such as block heads). Like I said before, there's no reason a sword should have more polygons than a head in low poly stuff.

Mr_Blue 05-04-2008 09:12 AM

My mistake. I didn't look closely when I made that previous post and the one prior to that. They are, I agree, not low poly.

Now you see this is why I take the weekends off.

Don't hate me, I'm only human :D

trifle 05-04-2008 06:42 PM

The sword is low poly. And it's on DS level of details. PS3 uses like 6000-12000 polygons on a character, and up to 1500 on a weapon.
Lowpoly mostly means it's made for a game anyway, and with that low amount of detail, it has no other use then in a game.

Mafukie 05-04-2008 11:36 PM

I think they fit the graal style really well, expecially for a Graal 3D...

Galdor 05-04-2008 11:46 PM

a low poly graal server would be really cool, maybe a bit higher res on the textures but should still look pixeled ^^

Shakram 05-05-2008 02:55 PM

yeah i hope Graal 3D will be in low poly or cellshading look :O
the weapons are cool and i think the textures fits
they only look ugly because of the zoom ^^

ring of fates for the ds has a good low poly look

wow that game seems cool kinda like zelda :)

PrinceOfKenshin 05-07-2008 02:53 AM

I think that you should make a tutorial on making 3d polys Galdor = )

Me too, it would be fun to see other peoples low poly models.

xAzerothx 05-07-2008 05:34 AM

A tutorial sounds nice. I got MilkShape and all but I don't know what else to do.
