Samurai renamed
I have almost always dislike the name Samurai as a kingdom name for a Japanese theme kingdom. Samurai means warrior in Japanese and having that as a Kingdom name I thought was a bit insulting to the idea. It would be like having Zormite renamed to “Fish” or Forest renamed to “Elf” Samurai is just a rank and nothing more.
So as of April 27, 2008 the kingdom of Samurai will now be known as Rising Sun. The reason for this name is quite simple. Japan is also sometimes referred to as “Land of the Rising Sun” and naming Samurai Japn wouldn’t of worked I thought taking and using Rising Sun would be more fitting. Its something that new players won’t have trouble remembering and also has meaning. I consulted other GK members before I made this choice and everyone liked the idea. You can post your thoughts about the new name in this thread if you would like just keep it clean. |
It sounds too generic. Why not go back to Kurenai Joukai?
|
I agree, Rising Sun sounds rather odd, though I'm not sure what you should name it to, as I was not around for Kurenai Joukai.
|
Call it Kung-Pow
|
Jackie Chan :D

Sushi :p

This isn't really a thread to vote what the name should be changed to just to comment. Name has already been changed and I don't want it changed again. I asked a few of the members of Samurai before I did it and they all liked it. Also it may sound a bit odd if you never heard some one use The Land of the Rising Sun before.
Also I never really liked Kurenai Joukai I wasn't to sure if Crimson Sun the translation of KJ had really any meaning to it. Plus it it wasn't easy to remember the spelling of. |
The "Rising Sun" is crimson good sir.
|
Rising Sun is a store from Era...
That died. |
Just keep it like that. Its not good, but its tradition.
The best reason probaply is because no good japanese name comes to most western minds.. Nippon doesn't sound like a good name for a kingdom on gk. |
Just get the name you like , lol.
|
Well actually Forest is kinda like samurai (in terms of crappy names) they should get a cool name too.

Zormite and Dustari are the only ones that seem like good kingdom names. |
Not really, Crescent Pirates is different than Samurai or Forest, it sounds like a name of a group.
|
It implied they're all pirates. Why would pirates have a Governor? That'd be like renaming Dustari "Imperial Knights" or Zormite "Fish Mage". Neither of those kingdoms are populated by those names.
|
Rising Sun is also a group of drift racers in Initial D anime.

1. Who says the sun rises on the east in our fictional world of Graal Kingdoms? You can't make that decision yourself; it has to be proven through official story-writing or a consensual assumption by the general RPing public. Better call it Rising Sun.
2. Just keep the damn 8-year-old kingdom name. Samurai. 3. We already saw what happened when you name it Kurenai Joukai. Then they just go back to the original anyways. Except now, if I'm not mistaken, you end up with items that have "Kurenai Joukai" in the title. Now we have new kingdom items supposed to come out. Samurai will officially have 3 different kingdom names represented by their items. 4. ???? 5. Profit Quote:

I joined Samurai because it was called Samurai.

name it ninjas.
|
If you name it ninjas everyone's going to go around being Naruto and going "retardno jutsu."
|
He was joking (Hopefully). Plus I hope that isn't the only reason you joined the kingdom...
|
I'll apologize, but I'm not taking my glasses off.

No it wasn't the only reason I joined. I don't want to be in some kingdom that sounds like some hippy drugs though.
|
Another idea would be to create a fictive kingdom instead of taking japan or china, of course it's mostly japan themed, but creating something fictive is also possible.

sorry my bad the name of that Drift Race team on initial d is Red Suns.
|
I get the picture the name has been used before else where but it doesn't mean its a bad name to use and it also doesn't mean the word Samurai hasn't been used for other things before too. Land of the Rising Sun is what sometimes people say to refer to Japan how wouldn't it be used for other things?
