[WIP] Final Fantasy-esque Menu

1 Attachment(s)
Here's something I've been working on and off at, it's nothing special, just want some opinions. I've been wanting to make a turn-based server exactly like Final Fantasy but never had any scripting support so I kinda just made it for fun.

Edit: I did not make the bodies in the menu, I simply snatched them from some avatars on the forums for a place holder.

Pretty though FF is terrible. :)

Nothing beats FF1. It all got grimmer until FF12.

You should get a scripter :o

A good quality scripter is hard to find, and I'm sure you know this.

I don't want my project put together like crap basically is what I'm saying.

If I could script I could make everything myself, but unfortunately I lack that skill. I used to be able to understand GS1, but I never tried to pick up GS2.

MrAnonymous_P2P 03-14-2008 04:22 AM

Its very simple and concise. I like it for the most part.

Sorry, no.

I don't typically lose myself.

If you posted in the forums and told a bit more about the server I may well be willing to help.

You're taking my message far too seriously. I meant in the general public. Since you script it doesn't apply to you, but I was referring to people that need help with projects.

I'm on my work computer right now, but at my house I have a pretty detailed list of how the game will play out, i.e parties, dungeons, world map functionality, magic, classes, weapons, quests, quest givers, etc...I'm still working on the storyline, but I prefer to start from the end to the beginning. Sounds odd, but it gives me the ability to make story-specific events much more creative.

I personally prefer menus to be simplistic, but if I continue to work on it I'm sure I'll add something to spiff it up a tad more.

I was actually going for that approach, I thought it gave it more depth.

If you like, forum PM me your ideas and I will more than likely help you out-- what I have heard so far sounds very cool, right now I have no scripting job anyway.

All I've been doing recently is making the mother of all pointless mudlibs ...

I'm glad you have experience with mudlibs, because for this project I'm pretty sure we'll need them with the huge amount of items I want implemented.

I also did see an enchanting script somewhere on the scripting forums, I really liked the idea of that.

Yeah, I will PM you my text document of ideas tomorrow or the next day.

You know what I just thought up that would make it look great? Some golden viney trim.

If you don't get what I am saying I will make a sample later.

Elk 03-14-2008 09:08 PM

pretty awesome

Yeah, that's really cool. If I ever start this thing I'd like to implement that into random rare item drops...so weapons/armor etc is different almost every time.

Is it possible to have the stats ranged by level of the monster? Such as levels 1-5 have low random stats, 5-10 a little higher, 11-15 even better etc, if you get what I'm saying.

I haven't figured out what I want to add to it yet, I want it to be simple yet very pleasing to the eye.

Go ahead and make a sample though, maybe it'll give me some inspiration.

Yeah, could be done easily with some modifications :P

James 03-14-2008 11:50 PM

I think I will start working on the battle menu for fun. :)

Here's the battle menu. I'll explain it a bit.

Effects
You will see what icon does what when you hover over the icon with your mouse.

Fury
Basically a limit break, overdrive, etc, pretty self explanatory.

Wait
Time you have to wait until next turn, can be sped up with the haste spell and the agility attribute.

One of my favorite Final Fantasy menus was seven's so I made my own version of it.

Xterminator 03-15-2008 05:18 AM

Nice :)

Stephen 03-15-2008 05:56 AM

As far as technical quality goes, it's pretty rudimentary. Colors are nice, although a touch dull - they don't really contrast enough. It's not especially impressive, given that it could be made in minutes in mspaint and doesn't really have much creativity in it aside from the angling of the corners - although that seems to be standard issue GUI stuffs on Graal.

I guess you meant FF like... FF for the gameboy?

Elk 03-15-2008 11:19 AM

haha stephen dont be so mean xD

anubis_wing 03-15-2008 01:05 PM

That would be an awesome server :o

xXziroXx 03-20-2008 03:19 AM

Simple, yet appealing.

Mythic is/will be a Final Fantasy inspired server by the way. Screenie in HERE should have given me away by now.

Oh, cool. I guess I have no need for this then. >_<

BigBear3 03-20-2008 03:24 AM

I like everything except those custom bodies.
