OH NO, I made a level!

Yes, yes, I made a level! I don't make them often, I don't have much of a mindset to make them as I have a hard time thinking of layouts and such... but I like to think I'm not too bad. Anyways, I decided to try something different, so this is more of a forest level. Heads-up, I'm terrible at making houses, coming up with creative stuff... so pointers would be nice.

OH DEAR GOD CALL THE NATIONAL GUARD...
Pretty good actually. The house could definitely use some work, but I REALLY like that path. |

Agreed, the house does need some work. Other than that you've a great job with the path and the tree's. But people have different views of houses. It depends on the style they use.
I usually use these tiles for it: |
Wow dusty... Very creative roof... I might try using that some time D:, but to make your life easier you should have used sand path npc, It helps a lot.

You won't learn to make paths if you use something that makes them for you. You still should start from scratch, or use that only as a very basic layout. That's what I'd recommend doing anyways >.< |
For some reason I hate the path, It just seems extremely small and even those this sounds weird straight. I mean that in the sense there is nothing branching off. It is just diagonal lines.
I also think there could be more cliffs. 6/10 |
Hmm, I could have sworn I replied...
Anyways, actually I don't suggest the sand path. That thing's ugly. I did however take it and edit it into a dirt path(it's posted in this section of the forums, somewhere), and used that. But then I also cleaned it up and added the more 'natural' dirt tiles to it. It's not something to finalize your work with, but it saved me a hell of a lot of time(having done dirt paths from scratch a few times before). |
I disagree, the tiles used in sand path look much nicer then the onces you used in the level.

I like it, I don't think that the path is too small... you have diffrent type of paths in life :). It's a bit straight indeed but it works with this level.
Your house isn't so horrible, it's nice and simple. The entire level is by the way. No negative points as far as I see. What I would try tho is adding a bit of cut swamp as detail and maby one mushroom somewhere. As for houses, try making a picture in your head and than try compromising a bit by using the tiles available within the tileset you use. Like maby a house with a wooden roof and some leafes growing ontop and some water within the leaves with a waterfall from a mountain pouring in and the waterfal flowing out and becoming a river. Than making the inside in a semi water covered thing aswell. But try keeping the perspective right, there's notting as awfull as people just cutting and pasting some weird shapes.. sticking a door on it and calling it a house. |
I don't really see where the paths are too straight or too narrow. If you think about where people would actually be walking they fit quite well. Even though the house is pretty basic at least it doesn't look like its going to fall in on itself with the first breeze. Nice job Dusty.

I don't think paths are meant to direct a player's movement(make them walk on it), but well... they're paths. I make my paths with the logic that paths are meant to show a path walked a lot. This helps direct the player in 'the right' direction, should they want to follow it.
