Pretty pretty bad lag.

Over the past week or so myself and quite a lot of others have been experiencing some pretty bad lag on most servers. Servers I've seen pretty bad lag on include Classic, UN, and Kingdoms.

I know it's not just me, so there must be something.

Well, from what I understand... Zodiac has been causing a lot of lag lately.

MrAnonymous_P2P 12-13-2007 04:46 AM

Ehh it's always Zodiacs fault.

MysticX2X 12-13-2007 03:57 PM

The UN lag thing has been known for a while. I havent seen it though in a while but sub zero did announce he was trying to find whats lagging UN a while back.

Ok Will try to keep an eye on Zodiac to make sure that it's taking less memory. The other servers should be ok though.

Elk 12-13-2007 09:01 PM

You should try to get a better server maybe :0
Zodiac has a really complex system and lots of nice features which have to take up alot of memory i think :0

Nice features don't have to take too much memory,
its usually bad code which does.

DustyPorViva 12-13-2007 11:17 PM

Exactly. A server can have a ton of nice systems, and not take up that much memory. It's all about how it's coded and how well it communicates between serverside and clientside.

I would like to know what kind of server plan/info GraalOnline uses.

I think they own their own servers.

They do.
Their own machines.
That's where people got the joke "Stefan tripped over the wire" or "Stefan spilled his coffee"

You forgot the most classic one; "Stefan pulled out the plug so he could play Mario Kart."

I'd like to see Stefan comment on that post.

Whats up with you guys? You totally forgot the pizza one D:

Pimmeh 01-05-2008 05:32 PM

I heard, vaguely, from Stefan that he actually DID have a plan, which is why your playerworld is put up immediatly when you pay for it.

if ( paid ) getLaggiestMachine().addServer( account @"-server");

=D They could own it and do that, but in shell-script. So the 'plan' might be just they own it and can do whatever, just as it could be they rent a dedicated/shared server and run the shell-script. My assumption is they own it.

Pimmeh 01-05-2008 07:28 PM

Hm, I would like to have this cleared up by Stefan. Because I can really recall something in the direction of a hosting company in 3D RC chat

MrAnonymous_P2P 01-05-2008 07:51 PM

rofl Lets not bring those old jokes back guys, those got so annoying. Whenever there was a problem with Graal it was "Stefan tripped over the wire" or "Stefan spilled his coffee". All are classic but still quite annoying.

Chompy 01-05-2008 08:57 PM

bah, anyways, on topic:

RC has been lagging a lot lately :(

YES! Horribly!
Both me and Codein have been experiencing problems with RC lag from time to time. And we live miles apart so...

Yeah, I have to wait secs to see what I wrote, and sometimes RC just gets to laggy and disconnects me.. kinda annoying

And NC disconnects TOO FAST for me now, so I have to update the script I work on like every 1-2 mins to keep it alive =/

gemini2 01-05-2008 10:33 PM

I've only been experiencing lag while on my client, not my RC. At least not most of the time.
Sometimes it'll just boot me off after waiting maybe, two minutes for my text to appear in the RC window, and display the message from the last time someone disconnected me.

I'm pretty sure they have a hosting plan. I recall someone telling me that a year or so ago.

ChrizP2P 01-06-2008 12:19 AM

I've been getting horrible lag, especially when loading new tilesets. I'm getting little bits of lag here and there on Classic too which iv'e never had before.

Same. We're still lagging pretty bad on Classic and there's no major developments there so you know nothing has changed locally.
