Account Folder?

Why do servers have account folders now?

They have always been there. Normally they were hidden. They contain the files for each player. Their attributes, rights and comments ^^.

It's odd that they are visible everywhere now...I can see people doing stupid things with the files or making very insecure scripts to access them.

What's the account folders name?

You still need to add npcserver-rights to access them, and there are other ways to access offline player data now. If it's a security problem then I can disable the access to the data though.

I'm not seeing it?

Now the NPC-Server can see it. Still doesn't help inverness ^^.

Two problems with that though. All the accounts are in subfolders sorted by the first two letters of the account name. Secondly, you gave write rights to the folder. Horrible security! NPC-Server should not get rights to any of the accounts folder otherwise people can randomly wipe/edit anyones or possibly everyones account via a script.

DustyPorViva 09-09-2007 08:09 AM

Great way to do server wipes without having to manually use RC to reset them via script, then disconnect them and have them reconnect, while spamming RC :)

Inverness 09-09-2007 09:04 AM

I don't see it on Val Dev or Aeon.

My account file would be in accounts/Tw/ folder. Your's would be in accounts/Ma/ folder. Your file gets placed in the subfolder with your first two account letters. Not sure about new accounts though...could be community or that long graalxxxx account.

Matt 09-10-2007 07:00 AM

Hrm, i see no sub-folders.

Inverness 09-10-2007 07:08 AM

Stefan said it was only enabled on the Dev servers.

Yep, it works on the dev <account> servers..
I see them when my account have rw */*, rw */*/* etc..

zokemon 09-11-2007 09:08 AM

I see it just fine on Zodiac.

I really wish I could do like:
NPC Code:

rw */*
rw */*/*
rw */*/*/*
rw */*/*/*/*
-rw accounts/*
-rw accounts/*/*

Which would show all folders except accounts because the accounts folders make file-browser take forevvvver to load.

You just know that this is going to be abused. Make way for the 3 day old servers with administrators having 342925 hours.

You can do that. I did it for a while.

Chompy 09-11-2007 03:39 PM

Hmm, for some weird reason, comments are listed in accounts/*/*?

For example I have a class named Assignments, it will be listed: accounts/As/Assignments.txt

It doesn't hide the folder for me. Only -w works.

Crow 09-11-2007 05:18 PM

I tried, it doesnt hide it, but it doesnt show the content anymore also.

Big deal, I don't want to see the folders. x_x

Pimmeh 09-11-2007 06:17 PM

Me neither, and I want to restrict my staff from using it. Hours should be given fairly, and not due to some friend service.
