Disabling of GS1

We plan to disable GS1 very soon. From what I have seen only the servers N-Pulse and Valikorlia are still using the old scripting engine. We need to know if there were already plans to switch to GS2 on those servers and where we could eventually help there.

PS: you can of course still use GS1 scripts in GS2 since it is 95 percent backwards compatible, disabling GS1 means removing support for servers that use the old scripting engine.

Chompy 08-29-2007 07:19 PM

Sounds nice :p

oh, and Valikorlia has a dev server which is gs2 ;o

Horrified 08-29-2007 07:32 PM

some UC servers are still GS1...

o_o

Twinny 08-29-2007 07:33 PM

Bout time! This should force N-Pulse to hurry up :D

There are not any private servers using the old scripting engine, I have verified it

Well that's good. :P

Maniaman 08-29-2007 09:45 PM

Sort of on the same line, can we please have a server option or something similar to disable the backwards compatability? Something like gs1enabled=false or so. I really dislike gs1 compared to gs2 and would like to disable it completely.

It would also be useful in keeping people from mixing old and new gscript.

theHAWKER 08-29-2007 10:31 PM

One hell of alot of doors are not going to work anymore...

Agreed.

Ok I will help N-Pulse this weekend to do the conversion, will copy N-Pulse main to N-Pulse dev, fix the logs/syntaxerrors.txt and then help fixing the main bugs. N-Pulse doesn't have a complex item system yet so it should not cause too many problems. May be also some GST can help.

Inverness 08-30-2007 12:17 AM

About time, however about Valikorlia I had been *****ing about converting it to GS2 but it was argued that we were working on Val Dev in GS2 however there is no way that will be finished 'soon', I suppose this means Valikorlia needs to be converted to GS2 immediately?

I'm willing to help. :)
I guess I was fairly decent with GS1, and I know GS2 pretty well.

lol i didn't read the thread all the way xD i saw Disabling Gs1 and was like noooo.

Angel_Light 08-30-2007 01:58 AM

Get a GS2 Level Editor or or an update with dll file that the editor will read so it will use GS2. This will help stop gs1 users.

yeah, cause i just take the door form the side and put it levels, so some servers are going to be scrood door and light wise...

Inverness 08-30-2007 02:57 AM

You obviously don't understand what Stefan is doing -.-

The only thing that he is doing is making it so servers can't do that "GS1 Only" thing anymore. GS1 stuff will still work with the GS2 (95%).

To much work, All the gs1 compatibility stuff is like threaded into all the gs2 I'm pretty sure.

Damn I would LOVE that.

At some time we could add an option to disable some old syntax yes, you can write some stuff that probably most scripters don't directly understand, like
#c:=">:["SPC#n@'!';

So, uh...Stefan...you gonna reply to me or not? :(

zokemon 08-31-2007 06:21 AM

Yeah, do you want my help?

Admins 08-31-2007 03:20 PM

I have copied the content of n-pulse main to n-pulse dev and started to fix some syntax errors. Need to speak with the manager to know if it's ok to add scripters and if we can let non-staff online to test and help fixing the bugs.

I would help you find some bugs if they would agree.

Same here, I could help convert to :o

Inverness 08-31-2007 10:22 PM

Will need to do the same thing for Val, except we already have a Val Dev and can't overwrite it, methinks we're needing a Val Dev 2 just for converting?

Admins 09-01-2007 12:17 AM

It should normally not take a lot of time. I mainly need to know if someone already started the conversion, or if I should copy the val main server to the dev server (making a backup of the dev server before) and then we start converting it to GS2.

About N-Pulse: someone could mass-pm on N-Pulse that players should test the dev server and report bugs

Need to do that. Would love if it could be done before you turn in for the night.

Admins 09-01-2007 01:37 AM

Tomorrow sorry :D

Admins 09-01-2007 07:53 PM

Ok copied Val -> Val Dev and fixed the logs/syntaxerrors.txt, players should now test it and report bugs.

Crono 09-01-2007 08:34 PM

.GS1 FOR LIFE

Inverness 09-01-2007 11:34 PM

Okay, if you want to help fix GS1 problems on Val Dev, contact me.

Btw, it would be nice if the File Browser didn't reset each time after you deleted an empty folder -.- its rather irritating trying to delete lots of sub-folders.
