crucial part of graal gone?

It seems as if I can't recreate or replace GFX/Ganis/anything else playermade anymore because they are automaticly replaced on login to the server.

Why was this implemented? This was a huge draw to me because I could customize Graal how I wanted and I can no longer do that now.

zokemon 08-12-2007 03:39 AM

That is a good thing. If you want to customize Graal, have the server do it for you. Or you can get a job on a server.

EDIT:
I talked to Spryte aboue implementing a setstate/setsprites chat command feature into UN. Players could then upload their custom state/sprites images and set them like such. Hopefully other servers will adapt such a system.

No, but I do what I can to help the Graal community as a whole and seeing that UN is the most appropriate server for such a feature, I choose to talk to Spryte about it first.

Should've tried sub...or for god sakes, maybe a GP would've made it better off on telling.

she just leaves her RC on while she's at work.

I use AIM, Yahoo, MSN or ICQ to talk to people when I can. I really hate PMs.

Because now it can be controlled via scripts which allows the scripter to make the environment more like how it is intended.

That was already possible, it's just that the player could change them after downloading them if they wanted too. But I guess that's bad since forcing the players to use the GFX the scripters and server management want is more important than letting them use the GFX that they like.

x_x

You seem to forget that servers are not allowed to upload files that are the same name as default files.

Indeed, if any server were to do that I would be forced to go Super Saiyan on their arse.

That new game for the Wii, Mario Strikers? Yeah, I would go like THAT on their ass.

The downloading has not been changed, you can still customize files like before. On which server and which graphics is it bugged?

Crow 08-12-2007 11:34 AM

Just set the graphics/ganis or whatever you changed to read-only. Thats what I do, and it works :p

No, but they can upload files with a different name and have them override the default files.

They can now, yes.

So what's wrong with players customizing their downloaded GFX?

DustyPorViva 08-12-2007 06:17 PM

Cheating :o
Or at least, that's what people used to do it for...(this is not a valid argument, please do not take it as such.)
Either way, if servers implement that whole set your own states.png thing... I believe it will work, even if the file is not uploaded, if the file IS in the appropriate Graal folder. I tested out a tileset online(using graphics that were saved in my Graal folder, not uploaded) before I bothered uploading the whole thing for others to see it.

About the cheating, that might work in some rare cases, when setshape was not used.
The thing you've spoken about works for sure, but its possible that the filenamecache has to be enabled for this, I think there were some issues with that.
